Intro

Mom-shaming is a serious topic and it’s usually brought up when a well-meaning, but ignorantly rude stranger tells a mom how she’s parenting her own kids all wrong and why that makes her a bad mom. The criticism is always unsolicited, somewhat mean-spirited, and it’s usually something that falls under the category of “NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.” So, we’re agreed. Mom-shaming is bad.
Because their personal lives are always in the spotlight, it’s no surprise that celebrities are always under attack from the parenting police. Read on to find out the most ridiculous cases of celebrity mom-shaming!
Farrah Abraham

A while back, Farrah took a trip to the doctor to get another little tune-up. And by tune-up, we mean she got butt injections.
Since we live in an era where people no longer know what TMI means anymore, Farrah uploaded a video of the whole procedure on her Instagram page. That’s when sharp-eyed viewers spotted a familiar face in the background: Farrah’s 9-year-old daughter Sophia. Also two small dogs, for some reason.
Not only had Farrah brought her young daughter along to watch this graphic display, but the little girl was holding a phone above her head, and it looked like she was taping the procedure from a different angle.
Many Instagram users were quick to call her out for having her daughter present while she got her bum plumped up.
“I can not believe Sophia is the one filming this procedure. What the h* are you teaching her. That you should change the way God made you to look like a plastic looking person. Poor Sophia,” wrote @4133river.
“This poor child like Farrah do better sweetie do better,” said @danii.2.dang3rous.
“What kind of example you’re giving to your child like this? I am very shocked, this is so wrong,” added @dutchdogdiary.
Even Farrah’s own daughter Sophia commented on the post, using her own Instagram account because of course, she has one. She simply wrote, “This was weird. I would do squats my momma.”
Other users came to Farrah’s defense, with @definitelythatmom writing, “People are seriously offended because her daughter is there? She’s clothed my gosh who cares.”
Not one to sit in silence for long, Farrah quickly clapped back at her “haters,” telling E! News while at Coachella, “For me bringing my child to the doctor with me and that’s like health and wellness, there’s nothing wrong with that. If anything, it teaches my daughter. She’s saying, ‘Oh mom. I’m doing squats. I’m never going to do that.’ So there’s a positive to everything that I teach my daughter.”
She continued, “Thanks to all the haters but I’m not challenged by it. There’s bigger things in this world to talk about. Each parent has their own prerogative in how they want to teach their kid. I’m doing that very well with Sophia and I always want the best for her.”
Farrah has landed herself in hot water several times in the past for her…parenting techniques. There was the time she tried to wax her 3-year-old’s unibrow, but failed, so she just tweezed it while the kid slept instead.
Around the same time, Farrah famously took a “break” from her then 4-year-old and claimed it was a good thing. “It’s healthy that we have a break,” she said back in 2013. “She has her own life and is doing her own thing, and I’m doing mine.”
We’re not saying Farrah’s a bad mom…she just has a parenting method that all the books warn you about.
Blac Chyna

Poor Blac Chyna. It seems like no matter what she does, she always gets criticized for it. Though some might argue that the criticism is fair considering her past actions.
The mother of two caught some heat over how she styled her daughter Dream Kardashian’s hair. Dream, who is two years old, is pictured sitting on a step and is sporting bright pink extensions in her hair, which is what’s causing all of this controversy.
Many Instagram users, which is the app Chyna used to upload the picture, called her out for putting extensions in her not even 2-year-old daughters hair. Since Chyna removed the original post, though, some complainers went over to Twitter to share their negative opinions.
Others though were quick to jump to Chyna’s defense. The “extensions” were just colorful clip ins that wouldn’t harm one hair on that baby’s head, they argued.
Most people seemed to agree that those who were quick to condemn Chyna probably didn’t realize how common that type of clip-in hair is.
Though people love to hate on Blac Chyna for a variety of reasons, this seems to be a little overblown. It’s a shame that a few haters managed to convince Chyna to delete the original post, especially because it’s such a cute photo. Still, it’s got to be a lot easier to simply take down a photo than deal with all the unnecessary criticisms that random internet strangers throw her way.
Chrissy Tiegen

Mommy shamers just can’t let Chrissy Teigen live her best life. The mom of two and host of Lip Sync Battles is no stranger to defending her parenting technique to trolls on the internet, but there seems to be a never-ending stream of well-intentioned, but overly opinionated hordes that descend every time she posts something with one of her kids. This time, it’s two fairly innocent family portraits that got people riled up enough to accuse Chrissy of being a bad mom.
People were quick to point out several flaws this picture showcased. Instagram user @nurse_norris commented, “You ever wonder why your child was crying in the photo because you had him faced towards the sun you blooming idiot and you went on to say a picture where his head looked unsupported probably because it was but your worries about looking good for photo #childservices.”
Another user, @jlo_1971 simply wrote, “How about you’re a mom and support your kid’s head!”
If you thought Chrissy got some nasty comments for this fairly innocuous family portrait, just wait til you see what people thought of the photo she posted of herself feeding her son.
One Instagram user, @another_1bitesthedust, clearly didn’t like to see Chrissy feeding her infant, so they wrote, “Why do constantly feel the need to prove something? Your voice and power is not an entitlement, put others down or prove you can do whatever you want. You aren’t doing it to make a difference, you are simply doing it to get attention only….personal selfish reason. It’s a power that’s abuse by all, especially by people like yourself.”
Another user, @mypony34, commented, “She’s looking for validation since she’s become so irrelevant.”
Yet another, @steel080, only said, “You sure are an attention seeker. SAD!!”
Not all the comments were negative, though. Some users, especially on the photo with Miles, commended Chrissy for “normalizing” it for other moms. It’s not too pleasant to take a hungry, fussy baby into a germy, cramped bathroom and trying to cram a wriggly baby underneath a blanket to preserve modesty can be almost impossible.
Chrissy is living her best life right now and enjoying her time with infant son Miles and daughter Luna. She definitely doesn’t have time to entertain all the haters and mom shamers out there who feel compelled to nitpick every little thing she does as a mom.
Kat Von D

Kat Von D is known for her punk-rock, “I don’t give a flip what anyone thinks” attitude. So far, it’s helped her create a beautiful, prosperous makeup line and she’s definitely a makeup icon in the beauty world.
However, when she was pregnant with her son, Leafar, she made an announcement that she would be raising her child in a vegan and anti-vaccination home. This left her fans feeling floored by her opinion.
People were absolutely furious and felt that Kat Von D’s decision would endanger her future child. People quickly took to Twitter and created the hashtag, #boycottkatvond, to show Kat Von D what for.
One person tweeted, “Officially done with kat von d and her brand terribly sad, but can’t support someone who risks other kids lives for what? To be vegan? To be natural and different from the masses? Not cool #boycottkatvond"
Another Twitter user decided to put her money towards something she believed in. “I donated what I would have spent on my next @KATVONDbeauty eyeliner to @gavi to provide access to vaccines in lower-income countries. #boycottkatvond."
For what it’s worth, the anti-vaccination is considered to be one of the biggest threats to public health. So maybe these mom-shamers’ concerns are well-intentioned.
April Love Geary

Okay, so maybe April Love Geary isn’t a huge celebrity, but her boyfriend, Robin Thicke, is. That’s basically the same thing, right?
Only six months after welcoming their baby girl Mia Love Thicke, the Blurred Lines singer and his 23-year-old model girlfriend have announced that they are expecting a second bundle of joy. At the time of the announcement, April was already about 12-weeks along, meaning that she got pregnant only about three months after giving birth to her oldest daughter. People online have also figured out that timeline and they definitely had some feelings about this whole situation.
April was accused of everything under the sun by some critical commentators, from having the baby as a way to get to Robin’s money, to implying that she was a bad mom for having her kids so close together. Instagram user @Icwander wrote, “MEALTICKETS BABYS” on April’s post announcing the coming child. Another user, @qiokacikaci wrote, “Wow your baby is not even a year old. Give your body a rest its not a competition or a race. Give your girl the attention she needs & deserve before sharing that with another baby.”
Other users were far less critical and more supportive. One user, @claudinedeniro wrote, “I had my 3 babies in 3.5 years – everything is wonderful, a little chaotic at times but it’s perfect! Congrats gorgeous mama! @robinthicke!! So happy for y’all!”
Another Instamama, @Kristinulm, wrote, “My kids are 15 months apart in age…my second wasn’t planned to be here that fast, but that’s the way it worked out!! I loved them being so close in age, and your body is just fine!! I will never understand why people always have to say negative things..if you don’t like it, move on! Have a happy and healthy pregnancy!”
April had been on birth control after the birth of baby Mia, but there’s always that 0.1% chance that birth control can fail, and that’s what April says happened here. A happy little accident. She’s revealed that her doctor thinks that she’s as healthy as can be for baby number 2. As far as the haters and the trolls are concerned, April is determined not to let them rain on her parade.
Teresa Giudice

Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice is no stranger to negative attention. From her glory days of table flipping to her conviction for fraud, this reality show regular has seen her fair share of haters.
After her daughter Audriana celebrated her 9th birthday, the attention quickly turned to Giudice’s parenting! Parents love to share photos of big moments in their children’s lives. For the average person, these types of posts usually get likes and positive comments from friends and family. But, after Teresa posted several photos of the birthday party to her Instagram, commenters had opinions to share.
The photo in question shows the mother-daughter duo smiling for the camera at the big party. But people were quick to point out that Audriana’s look was not something they found entirely appropriate for a 9-year old. Her full face of makeup and crop top combination was a serious topic of conversation in Teresa’s comment section.
Many people felt that Giudice had chosen her daughter’s look for the day. They were disappointed that a mother would want her young child to wear such an outfit. As Instagram user @jo.cosio said, “Let her be a nine-year-old child! A little girl. No makeup! Age appropriate clothes!”
Others pointed out their problems with the girl’s stance. User @mrs.cirig commented, “the only thing wrong with this picture (you open yourself up to opinions when you put this out there) is her pose. She is a little girl doing an older girl pose. Yeah, she has older sister’s, your job is to keep her innocent. She doesn’t look her age here. That’s where it goes wrong.”
Some people took things a little more to the extreme. Speaking on the future of 9-year-old Audriana, @jenniferallenbach eloquently stated, “she is going to be a sl**.” Meanwhile, others such as @roseannaderobertis decried the photo as “totally disgusting.”
Teresa and Audriana were not without their defenders, however.
One fan, @kerichamberlainbarnes lashed out at shamers: “Who cares what top she is wearing? Give me a break, go find something constructive to do.”
While others, such as @maggie_w77, encouraged the young girl: “Happy birthday pretty girl! Ignore the ignorant, negative, rude people!”
Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood faced backlash after she posted a photo of herself at her son’s soccer game.
She posted a cute selfie with an adorable caption about her son’s game and life as a soccer mom! But, what has people up in arms? Her full face of makeup! One Instagram commenter said, “you’re obviously insecure if you have to get that dolled up for a soccer game. What do you do if it’s raining? Sit in the car so your face doesn’t run off?” Haters implied that by wearing makeup to the game, she was distracted from spending quality time with her son!
Others were quick to defend the country singer. “For all the people saying real moms don’t wear that much makeup, do real moms try shaming another for wearing makeup? Hm, go figure” one defender posted.
Honestly, this case of mom-shaming is absolutely ridiculous and it sounds like these trolls are just jealous of Underwood’s beauty.
Kim Kardashian

With three kids and one on the way, Kim Kardashian has had her fair share of mom shamers trying to take her down. However, Kim has had enough of them! A while back, posted a few videos and pictures of her daughter North to her Instagram story. The reality star showed off her 6-year-old doing her makeup, with some help of course. In one of her pictures, she called North a “contour queen.”
These pictures of North practicing a full glam look was enough to get mom-shamers up in arms. Kim’s next post addressed just that. She posted a picture of North sitting in a car seat and rocking her completed makeup look including some bright pink lipstick. She included the caption, “North wearing shade #6 in the new Classic Blossom Collection. Relax Mom Shamers it’s coming off in a few mins. I needed a bribe to get out of the door…you feel me?!?!?!”
It seems Kim Kardashian knows when to expect mom-shamers and is always ready with a reply almost instantly. However, is there more to this than meets the eye. It almost seems as if she is using her daughter to advertise her makeup brand…but that could just be us.
Cardi B

Cardi B is no stranger to controversy. In addition to her hit music, the entertainer is also know for her eccentric, larger than life personality. She’s also unashamed about her past as a dancer. Recently, the rapper made headlines for her rant about the government shutdown. Now, there’s even more drama circulating around her after she posted a series of suggestive photos before she was set to perform at the AVN Awards Show…aka the “Oscars of Adult Videos.”
Because of the provocative nature of the photos (and because haters gonna hate), there were many internet trolls who couldn’t keep their negative thoughts to themselves. A lot of them harassing her because she is a mother. One commenter wrote, “U got a daughter man. Put some clothes on please, u better than this.” Another said, “You have a f—ing daughter and your doing this sh–, I’m not surprised they call you [redacted].”
Despite the hostility, many of Cardi’s followers came to the rapper’s defense, noting that her posts had nothing to do with her child or other people’s children. One fan commented, “Astonishing how many women here are dissing and judging her. Just because you had a child doesn’t mean you lose your right to be a empowered.” Adult entertainer and Internet personality Chris Crocker added, “Anyone who calls you [redacted] is REPRESSED with themselves. They’re the same kinds of people who gave Madonna crap in the 80’s for being free.”
Cardi B’s sister Hennessy Carolina also came to bat for her saying, “I hate when people wanna say ‘you need to be a good example to kids’ like who are you Elmo, Barnie do you work at Disney channel? why do people kids have instagram anyways? pleaseeeee, YOU LOOK HOTTTTT! And im glad your getting your confidence back after bby girl.”
