One of the most fascinating aspects of both the Winter and Summer Olympic Games is seeing the atmosphere of the Olympic Village in the host country. Obviously, the scene in the Olympic Village of the “2020” Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and this year’s Winter Olympic Games in Beijing look a little different than usual but if anything, it makes getting an inside look even more interesting!
Lucky for us, Canadian Biathlete Adam Runnalls shared a day inside the Olympic Village on his personal TikTok page! For those who don’t know, the biathlon is an event that combines cross country skiing and shooting. Basically reenacting various James Bond movies for the chance at Olympic gold.
Take a look at a day in Adam’s life in the Olympic Village below!
Olympians, They’re Just Like Us
The most surprising part of this video was easily the breakfast Adam had at the start of the day. No, not the maple and brown sugar oatmeal, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Up until seeing this video, I had no idea shrimp and eggs were even a thing people considered combining but apparently this is just a staple in China. I don’t think I’ve even had seafood at breakfast, let alone mixed it with my morning eggs. I’m going to have to give that one a shot.
Unfortunately, my enthusiasm over his breakfast stopped when I saw the rest of his plate. Obviously, they had to prepare food for hundreds if not thousands of athletes for three meals a day but what were they going for with the breakfast sausage? I mean that’s just ballpark hot dogs thrown on a plate. And the toast is just a piece of Wonder Bread. Are you telling me with a straight face they didn’t have a single toaster in that place? Maybe Adam doesn’t like his toast toasted. I’ll give the Olympic Village cooks the benefit of the doubt.
The real MVP of this day-in-the-life video is easily the Lululemon gear provided to Team Canada. If the concept of “look good, play good” has any correlation to real-life athletic performance, you can expect Team Canada to clean up this year.
Last of all, there’s nothing like winding down from a day of competing against the world’s greatest athletes with a little Playstation. Either video game consoles are team-issued, especially since athletes can’t be out and about as frequently as they could be in previous Olympic Games, or whoever packed the Playstation is just the most popular guy amongst his country’s athletes.
What part of Adam’s day stuck out the most to you? Let us know in the comments!
