Lipstick can be a lifesaver! There are so many differnet shades you can easily find one to match every mood, skintone, outfit, and activity. But every lisptick no matter what shade or finish, comes with the same manual. Keep in mind these important to keep in mind these rules to avoid lipstick blunders.

Treat Lips Like Face

Before you apply makeup to your face you always clean and prep it so everything goes on smooth and stays in place. You need to do the same to your lips before you apply lipstick. Exfoliate your lips with a towel or a brown sugar and honey mixture so they look plump and smooth. Then moisturize with clear lip balm or face moisturizer. Now the fun part can begin.

Counter The Bold

Vibrant colors and sultry shades are all the rage now. If you choose to show off your wild side with a bold lip you need to do minimalistic makeup everywhere else, especially the eyes. Pair a deep red with simple winged eyeliner or a fun orange with a subtle natural glow. Do not do a dark smoky eye with a bold lip color unless you want to look like a clown.

Signature Shade

Find the perfect shade that fits your every day activities. Try to go for something a little more classic and subtle than fun and outgoing. Your signature shade should be a color you can throw on in a jiffy that will perfectly match any outfit, like a nude, rose, or coral. Play around with blue and red tones until you find the shade that makes you look and feel like a supermodel.

Primer Is A Must

Just like with your face, primer is a lifesaver when it comes to color that stays on all day. After you exfoliate and moisturize apply a primer to your lips to prevent smudging and fading. You don’t need to spend big bucks on a lip primer, the one you use for your face will work just the same.

Clear Lip Pencil

Stop throwing away your money on matching lipsticks and lip pencils. Did you know they make clear lip pencils? I’m not kidding. It’s the greatest invention ever because one pencil fits all shades. No more mismatched pencils! Use the clear pencil to line the outside of your lips after you they have been primer to prevent the lip color from bleeding.

Start In The Middle

Contrary to popular belief, when applying lipstick it’s better to start from the middle of the lips rather than the corners. This way when you get to outer corners your hand is less shaky and can easily draw a clean line. It will save you so much headache and embarrassing clown face.

Highlighting Is Key

Create a cupid’s bow that will make every woman jealous by using a little highlighter. Use a white pencil to outline the cupid’s bow and accentuate your natural pout. It will also serve as double protection against bleeding and smearing.

Peppermint Pout

Want a plump pout like Angelina Jolie’s. Duh, who doesn’t? You don’t need to empty out your wallets on expensive lip plumper serums that are full of all sorts of chemicals. Instead, make your own by adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your lip-gloss. Peppermint oil is nature’s version of the expensive and risky collagen injection.
