17 Style Hacks To Save Your “Ruined” Clothes

By Minq Team

We've all had the heart-breaking experience of spilling something that we can't remove on a favorite shirt, or noticing a stubborn scuff on your favorite shoes. Have no fear: for these and so many more common clothing problems, we have the simple solutions!

Sew Yesterday

You don't have to know how to sew to fix a loose button. Simply paint a bit of clear nail polish over the loose button thread and it will be stopped from unraveling for a while.

Shave Away Foundation Stains

Getting a foundation stain on your shirt collar is super common, but can be a pain to fix — unless you know this trick! Before washing the shirt, wipe a bit of shaving cream onto the stain.

Spray Away Lipstick Stains

For lipstick stains, spray some hairspray onto the stained fabric. Let it sit for a while, and then put it in the washer.

Always Look Cool

If you thought your freezer was only for food, think again. Putting a cashmere or wool sweater that keeps shedding into a plastic bag and leaving it in the freezer overnight will instantly fix that pesky shedding problem. Doing this to a smelly pair of jeans is also effective at removing odors without risking the fading from over-washing.

Leather Like New

It's common for leather to get water stains from water, snow, or salt. To remove them, simply dip a toothbrush in white vinegar and brush out the stains.

Overcome Your Underwire

Having the underwire of your bra poke into you is one of the most frustrating things in the world. But you don't have to get rid of that bra just yet! Just use some adhesive Dr. Scholl's moleskin and your bra will stop being such a pain.

Bye Bye, Pit Stains

A mixture of lemon juice and water is perfect for quickly getting rid of armpit stains. For tougher stains, substitute the lemon juice with baking soda.

Not-So-Tough Scuff

No need to get upset of a scuff on your patent leather shoes. A cotton swab and some petroleum jelly is just the thing to instantly get your shoes looking like you just bought them!

File The Suede

Getting dirt off of suede shoes can be a real hassle. But it doesn't have to be, as long as you have a nail file handy. Simply buff the dirt right out and your shoes will be good as new!

Smirnoff Smell

Spraying a small amount of vodka onto stinky clothes is a quick and easy way to remove odor if you don't have time to properly wash something. It may seem counter-intuitive, but the alcohol will kill the odor-causing bacteria in just a minute.

Shady Repair

If you notice the arm of your sunglasses getting a little bent out of shape and you don't have a tiny screwdriver to fix the screw, then some clear nail polish will do just fine for a quick fix. Paint the polish over the hinge and it should stay tightened for a while.

Stop Whining

A red wine stain may seem like the end of the world (and of your wardrobe), but it can actually easily be treated by it's polar opposite on the wine spectrum. Soak the stain in some white wine for a bit before washing.

Run Away

A run has the power to ruin your favorite pair of tights, but not if you have clear nail polish! Paint some on the problem area and your problems are solved.

Tug Around A Pulled Thread

If you notice a pulled thread on one of your pieces of clothing, you're probably worried that it will catch on something and begin to unravel. Put it back in its place by tugging on the fabric around the thread. Alternate pulling simultaneously up and down and left and right until the thread gets smaller and smaller.

Clean Up The Oil Spill

Getting grease or oil off of delicate clothing may seem like too much to bother with for some people, but it really isn't as long as you have some dishwashing liquid. The liquid will remove the stains, and it's gentle enough to use on delicate fabrics.

Stainless Deodorant

The foam-topped hangers that you get from the dry cleaners are the perfect material for cleaning up any deodorant stains you might have. A light wash jean is also effective, but avoid dark wash jeans since the dye may transfer to the shirt.

Zip It

Don't let a stuck zipper deter you from wearing your favorite jacket. Use a cotton swab to dab the area of the zipper that's giving you problems with petroleum jelly and watch as your zipper glides up with ease.

Stinky Jeans

Got smelly jeans but don’t feel like doing laundry? This may sound strange but if you put your jeans in a bag and stick it in the freezer overnight, the stench will be gone! Seriously, the freezer kills most of the odor-causing bacteria.

Spray That Run Away

If you seem to have the worst luck with your tights, hairspray may be your new best friend. If you are prone to runs in your tights, lightly spray them with hairspray before you put them on.

Shave Your Sweater

If you think your sweater is toast once you find pilling, think again. Go over your sweater with a razor to say good-bye to those nasty little pilling piles!
