12 Foods You Probably Didn’t Know You Can Freeze

By Minq Team

A great way to make food last longer is by freezing items that are not going to be eaten right away. Although all foods cannot be frozen, there are many that will do great when stored in the freezer. Many of which are foods you probably did not know that you could freeze.

Milk

This is the first on the list because many people have no idea that you can freeze it. Milk jugs even have a little indentation so that it has room to expand when frozen. This allows families to take advantage of grocery store specials on milk and stick it in the freezer. It will not spoil and you can cash in on the discounted price while it lasts.

Peanut Butter

Being high in fat makes peanut butter work really well in the freezer. Although peanut butter can last a while without going bad already, it’s still good to know in case you really want to stock up. This works for all nut butters as well.

Avocado

These fruits are a perennial summertime favorite, and thankfully you can freeze them to enjoy anytime! Although they won’t be great to eat as a solid after freezing, you can still use them to make perfect guacamole or other dips.

Hummus

This is another dipping favorite. If you’re a hummus fan, then you probably can’t have enough in your house. Go stock up on the stuff and stick it in your freezer (with a little olive oil so it doesn’t dry out) so that you can have hummus anytime.

Eggs

This is another food that is not commonly frozen, but they do great from the freezer. You can crack eggs into a Ziploc bag and freeze them. When you are ready to use them, you can just thaw them in the refrigerator.

Crackers

When the supermarket is having a great sale on crackers, stock up and freeze them! They’re just as good if not better from their frozen state, and won’t grow stale in the freezer.

Potato Chips

This is another great money saver. Wait until your favorite chips are on sale and buy all of them. You can then stick them in the freezer. When thawed they are crispy and have a great flavor.

Sandwiches

This will save both money and time. You can simply make your lunch the night before and then freeze it. By the time lunch comes around, your lunch bag should be thawed and ready to go if you take it out of the freezer in the morning.

Wine

When using wine for cooking or other purposes, you sometimes do not use it all. To keep this expensive ingredient from losing its flavor, you can stick it the freezer. When you are ready to use it again, simply thaw and reuse.

Maple Syrup

This sweet treat is quite expensive. It is wonderful that you can freeze it because this is a food that you just do not want to waste. Stick it right next to your frozen waffles.

Herbs

Most recipes only call for a little of an herb or spice and you do not want to waste. Fresh herbs can be easily frozen in a little water. They defrost easily and maintain its flavor after freezing.

Nuts

Nuts are very expensive and sometimes get stale in the cabinet. A great way to prevent this phenomenon is to freeze them. They keep for a very long time and retain their nutrients as well as their flavor.

Bread

This is the most commonly used food in my household. When it is on sale, I stock up and freeze it because it will keep for much longer and stay just as fresh.

Butter

This is definitely a costly staple to keep in the home. When it goes on sale, you can stock up and freeze it. This will keep your grocery bill down while enjoying your favorite foods like butter.

Chicken Broth

Whether you are buying prepared broth or have accumulated some from boiling chicken, there is no need to dispose of any unused portion. You can freeze this stuff and pull it out to thaw when you are ready to use it.
