By Minq Team
Julia Kuzenkova

It's always important to eat fruits and veggies, but eating them in season can make these healthy foods even more rich in nutrient and flavor. Sadly, autumn is a time when many of the berries and fresh fruits that you love aren't growing, but that doesn't mean that nothing good is in season. These awesome fall fruits and veggies will be your favorite foods as the weather gets colder.

Apples

Beyond being a sweet alternative to candy or other desserts, apples have many great health benefits. They give you stronger, whiter teeth and can even help protect against Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and certain cancers. Another plus, women who eat an apple a day are 28% less likely get diabetes.

Cranberries

Cranberry harvest takes place once a year from September until November, so we are right in the middle of cranberry season.  Cranberries are a great source of fiber and Vitamin C.  And they last in the refrigerator for up to two months!

Grapes

California is the largest grape producer in the US because of its year-round warm climate.  Grapes are a great source of fiber without an unnecessary amount of sodium and saturated fat.  And one cup of grapes is only 50 calories! Freeze them for a sweet treat.

Pineapple

Fall is pineapple season!  To choose the perfect pineapple, go for heavy ones with dark green leaves.  Pineapples are a great fat free way to get plenty of Vitamin C.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms are an amazing replacement to meat and can help you loose weight. Additionally, they can improve overall nutrition, give you a boost of vitamin D and improve your immune system. A stronger immune system is always an amazing asset in the winter, so get cooking up some mushrooms!

Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the healthiest foods out there! Its high fiber count can help digestion and just one cup can give you all the vitamin C and K you need in a day. Additionally, it's a great detoxifying vegetable for the body.

Potatoes

While potatoes aren't ideal if you're looking for a super low-carb diet, they do have amazing antioxidant properties. They also have a great deal of vitamin C, vitamin B, iron, potassium and magnesium. On top of that, potatoes are another helpful food for lowering blood pressure!

Beets

Beets are an amazing food to use in your juicer this fall. Beet juice can lower blood pressure by a few points extremely quickly, which improves blood flow. Additionally, drinking beet juice before a workout has been shown to increase your stamina by 16%.

Pears

Pears are full of potassium, which helps keeping your heart beating normally. In 2011, the American Heart Association speculated that eating one pair a day could reduce the risk of a stroke by 52%.

Butternut Squash

Butternut squash is especially delicious and amazing roasted during the colder months. Eating it is also worth your while due to its anti-inflamitory effects and the large amount of vitamin A it contains. In fact, one cup of butternut squash contains over 200% of your daily vitamin A intake.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins, like butternut squash contain tons of vitamin A. This is helpful to you because vitamin A helps keep your eyesight sharp. Pumpkin seeds can also be eaten as a snack and are great for your heart, as they help reduce cholesterol.

Leeks

Leeks are great for weight loss due to their low amount of calories, yet larger amount of fiber. Leeks can also help protect against heart disease, as they lower blood pressure, help prevent clotting and get rid of homocysteine, which can harm cardiovascular health.

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are another amazing source of vitamin C and fiber. They also contain certain types of antioxidants, which can help protect against cancer.

Parsnips

Parsnips gain a natural sweetness to them, so they are a great way to get a touch of natural sugar without overloading. They are also another great source of fiber, which will give you fullness that lasts all day, without consuming too many calories.
