10 Best Of The Worst 90s Beauty Trends

By Minq Team
Jacob Lund

The 1990s was a time of many different beauty trends. As with all trends, they come and go, however, even though many of these old trends were horrible, some stuck around longer than others and stand out from the crowd.

Scrunchies

Scunchies are still popular, even in the 21st century, but aren’t used quite like they were in the 90s. Then, they were twisted around in weird ways and into ponytails that made no fashion sense at all. So, if you are going to wear a scrunchie, don’t wear them like the gals of the 90s did.

Frosted Tips

And here’s one for the guys. Boy bands were huge in the ’90s, and where there were boy bands there were frosted tips. So many young boys across the nation emulated the look, and maybe we liked it back then, but now we can see it for the tacky trend that it really was.

Big Hats

“Blossom” and “Sister Sister” both featured a lot of weird oversized hats. They seemed super cool at the time, but they look ridiculous now.

Little Baby Buns

Gwen Stefani was a huge fan of this edgy ’90s trend. But who really thought putting tiny buns all over our heads was a good idea? Apparently Miley did when she brought it back recently, but we think the look should just stay in the ’90s.

Crimped Hair

This is another trend that has popped up several times. It sort of looked like braids, but used a special heated tool like a curling iron. Now, this is not in fashion, but who knows if it will come back once again!

Shiny Lips

In the 90s this was considered to be fabulous and fashionable. Shiny lips were the be-all and end-all of chic. But not in the 21st century. You’ll have to pick a lighter shade of lip gloss to be hip today.

Glittering Eye Shadow

And the women of the 90s just had to have glittering eye shadow to go with those shiny lips, as the combo was very trendy at that time. Now, glittering eye shadow is out for the 21st century! Instead, pick some regular shades and leave the glitter for a kid’s art project.

Overly Plucked Eyebrows

During the 1990s women plucked their eyebrows almost to the point of nonexistence. We can thank Cara Delevingne for putting an end to this trend. In these days women still pluck, but not as much as before.

Butterfly Clips

Gals used to hunt all around for cute butterfly clips for their hair in the 90s. These were big and small, fancy and plain. But now, leave these for the babies and toddlers.

Lip Liner

Lip liner has always been loved by women all over the world. That’s because it makes the lips fuller and more defined. However, then what was worn was usually five shades darker than the woman’s lipstick, and that’s not what should get worn nowadays.

Crazy Looking Updo

Another 90s trend was several hairdos where the women’s hair jutted out from their heads in several styles. Girls liked spiked hair and the more points the better. Now, we look back and see how silly, and sometimes even dangerous, these crazy haircuts could be.

Flat Twists

This was a look that almost every prom goer used in the 90s. It was considered to be trendy, chic and “bad.” But these days, twists are not used so much, so it’s likely not goin to come back in the 21st century.

Baby Looking Swirly Hair

90’s women liked to make their hair all gelled and swirly to make it look like a baby’s hair. However, now they think that look is silly. Women these days don’t normally use this baby hair design and have other trendy hairstyles.
