Kim’s “Oh-No!” – Kardashian Star Retracts Shapewear Name After Backlash, Claims She Had “Innocent Intentions”

Talk about a Kardashian fashion disaster.

Only two weeks ago, Kim Kardashian West announced to People Magazine that she was releasing a new shapewear and lingerie line. She dubs it as “solutionwear” that helps women “achieve their body goals,” which looks like a tiny waist and smoothed out curves if customers are modeling themselves off the seller.

But promoting a certain body image isn’t what has gotten Kardashian West into hot water – it’s the fact that she decided to name her brand “Kimono.”

After sitting down and doing some hard thinking, I decided that she might have chosen the name as a “cute” play-on-words with her own name, but I’m still confused as to what her shapewear has to do with the traditional Japanese garment of the same name. Reactors to her line are furious, accusing her of cultural appropriation and all-around disrespect.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, she confessed, “You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper.”

She claims that she loves Japan and has “great respect” for the country, adding that her husband, Kanye West, was there during this controversy.

She continued in her interview, “I’m the first person to say, ‘Okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.’ I obviously had really innocent intentions.”

The website promoting her “Kimono” brand has since then been taken down, as the star has taken to social media to announce the pending name change. As of now, the new name is still in progress.

However, Kardashian West still plans on moving forward, declaring that her shapewear is much needed. For now, she focuses on marketing the brand’s diverse sizes, from XXS to 4XL, and shades, including 9 different skin tones. She plans on to adding more shades once the brand officially launches.

So what do you think? Is she being responsible or is she only changing the name because she got called out?

Also, do you think shapewear is a trend that celebrates diverse bodies or hides what they really look like?
