The riskiest part of buying white shoes is the ongoing struggle of keeping them looking fresh and clean. No matter how hard you try, your crisp white shoes will always eventually start looking like you’ve been walking through dirt for weeks.
If you’re like me and you gave up trying to keep your white sneaks clean a long time ago and don’t really care if your shoes aren’t perfectly clean, Gucci might have the shoe for you.
The fashion house’s new Screener Leather Sneakers collection does the dirty work for you…literally. The shoes, which are “inspired by vintage sportswear,” purposely look distressed because fashion.
The starting price for the shoes is $870. However, if you want to be super extra, you can snag a pair adorned with gold cherries or crystals for $1,250 and $1,590.
If it seems like a lot of money to drop on a pair of shoes that look like you’ve been wearing them for forty years, it’s because it is. But hey, that’s fashion, baby.
This isn’t the first time Gucci has tried to pull a fast one on us by selling dirty-looking sneakers. Their 2018 Resort collection featured scuffed up, chunky white sneakers that honestly look like they belong on my dad’s feet during a cook-out instead of a runway.
Theoretically, if you really wanted to commit to this fashion trend, you could just keep wearing your favorite old sneakers and save yourself a grand. But it’s your money, so you do you!
