Hannah Olateju used to hide behind dark clothing, but now there’s nothing that can keep her from feeling like a boss.
In a recent profile by The Daily Mail, the 18-year-old from London revealed how she makeup helps her feel confident, despite having all four limbs amputated at a young age after battling meningitis.
It all started with a trip to Jamaica. While she was there, Hannah noticed how everyone in Jamaica radiated confidence, regardless of their body type or what they looked like. Hannah decided to apply that confidence to her own life and now she fully embraces her appearance.
Now, she shares her journey of self-love with nearly 60,000 followers on Instagram.
Hannah said, “I decided I wanted to post makeup tutorials on to YouTube. I feel like it would help other amputees, especially new amputees.’
She added, “Fashion and makeup has helped me and my confidence in a way that I can express my self more and try and kind of figure out what I like.”
Hannah doesn’t let the haters get to her either. When people leave negative comments on her photos, she just deletes them because she knows who she is. She also doesn’t use the word ‘disabled’ when describing herself because of the word’s negative connotation.
Ultimately, Hannah wants people to know that “body positivity is being confident with your body regardless of who tries to shame you, or whatever tries to put you down because, at the end of the day, we’re all going to die one day.”
