Eleven's buzzcut touched the lives of many

Millie Bobby Brown’s buzzcut has become a pop culture icon since Stranger Things premiered summer 2016. Although both Brown and her character have since grown out their hair, the 13-year-old actress just shared that shaving her head was “the most empowering moment” of her life.

In Stranger Things, Brown is known as Eleven, the supernaturally gifted MK Ultra product/boss babe. She’s held captive in Hawkins Laboratory, where scientists conduct experiments on her psychic abilities — hence, the shaved head for electrodes.

In a series of tweets, Brown reminisced over her shaved head.

She followed-up in another tweet: “Shaving your head is so empowering. You don’t need hair to be beautiful. You are beautiful with or without. I learnt that too.”

Brown then shared the moment when she saw her shaved head for the first time.

“The day I shaved my head was the most empowering moment of my whole life,” she wrote. “The last strand of hair cut off was the moment my whole face was on show and I couldn’t hide behind my hair like I used to. As I looked in the mirror I realized I had one job to do. Inspire.”

By the response her tweets received, Brown’s character certainly inspired. Women tweeted back with photos and videos of their own beautiful shaved heads.

Amen to that!! Inspired by Eleven and never felt better 🖤🦄💇🏻‍♀️ pic.twitter.com/59lqTqIO9T

Best decision I’ve ever made. It made me realize that the concept of beauty is truly subjective, and I can be pretty like me, I don’t have to be pretty like other people.
Plus I have only used like two bottles of shampoo/conditioner in 6 months so that’s cool too. https://t.co/f49QwqE9eI

Twitter user @DorianDarkstar shared two images of her young daughter, who was inspired to shave her head after watching Stranger Things.

My 7 year old wanted to be Eleven for Halloween. When I asked her what she wanted to do with her hair she just said, "Shave it," with a straight face. So we did. She LOVES Stranger Things and the character you play means a lot to her. 🖤 pic.twitter.com/63dUGYqcZx

“My 7 year old wanted to be Eleven for Halloween,” she tweeted. “When I asked her what she wanted to do with her hair she just said, ‘Shave it,’ with a straight face. So we did. She LOVES Stranger Things and the character you play means a lot to her.”

She continued in another tweet, “She absolutely loves it and hasn’t cared too much what anyone has had to say about it. She got called a boy a couple times at school but told me she didn’t care because there’s nothing wrong with being a boy and also corrected the older kids that girls can have short hair too.”

Whether being herself or standing in front of the camera as Eleven, Brown is an inspiration and true #GirlPower icon to everyone.
