Male students are standing up against school authorities to prove a point in the flawed dress code policies, at their California High School.
You hear all the time about the girls who are constantly getting in trouble for not following their high school’s dress code policy. But this time, the boys are standing up and fighting back!
Students of San Benito High School, in Hollister, California, started school recently and some of the female students have been faced with dress code infractions, due to off-the-shoulder tops.
And after a number of girls wearing these ‘forbidden’ tops were denied getting their school pictures taken, some male students decided to that they would protest by showing up to school while sporting their own off-the-shoulder tops. The dedication for their female friends is real!
Yahoo Style spoke with one of the students affected by the dress code policies and how it’s starting to grow as a problem, just recently.
“The dress code policy hasn’t been an issue the past two years I have been here,” In regards to the off-the-shoulder tops, the anonymous student said, “it was okay and it would be the same with a lot of the other girls.”
After noticing how common the style of shirt was, among the students, the San Benito Principal spoke up about the drama regarding this topic
“Students are saying that they were hearing that the reason (strapless and off-the-shoulder shirts) are not allowed is that it distracted the boys and that’s definitely not it at all.
Part of my job is to clarify the why behind the dress code. Whether you are a male or female student, it’s your own responsibility not to be distracted, regardless of your gender.”
The principal also mentioned that he has been talking to students about the situation, and has been listening to their thoughts and opinions.
So at least the principal is willing to take into consideration, the students and their viewpoints. It seems like he might be a little more open-minded to potentially changing the dress code policy…
As a big fan of off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, I find them to be on trend and they look great on everyone! It’s not like they show cleavage; all they do is show some shoulder and maybe some collarbone.
Props to these guys for their support. This will forever be one of the most iconic school movements.
