We’re over half-way done with 2017, and we’ve already seen some of the craziest trends that are stemming from Instagram. Trends like: Holographic Hair, Salmon Sushi Hair, Feather Eyebrows, and now a new makeup trend!
If you’re familiar with the beauty community on social media, you’re well aware that everyone just wants to achieve that GLOW on their face. Highlighters have made a huge impact in the makeup product world, but people aren’t just using highlighters on the high points of their face. Now the thing to do (at least for Instagram) is to take part in Ear Highlighting.
Yep, we thought it sounded crazy too!
Refinery 29 is cleverly calling this ear-highlighting technique the ‘Lobe Strobe,’ which is basically taking an highlighter or illuminator to accentuate the outer and inner ear lobe and tragus. And people are choosing to take part in this highlighting movement.
Some people can pull it off quite well, and some are giving credit to social media influencers!
An Instagram user and model named Miski, said that Youtuber, Bretman Rock, is the inspiration for trying the trend on herself.
“Bretman Rock does it on his Snapchat, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. I can take my highlighting game to the next level.'”
And Miski looks beautifully natural with the trend!
Last year, there was the Full Face Using Only Highlighters Challenge that happened on YouTube, that many beauty gurus took part in, including: Jeffree Star, Manny MUA, Nikkie Tutorials, and more.
But this ear highlight isn’t as drastic as that highlighter challenge, so I guess it could add a subtle glow for every-day wear. However, I think it would look better for editorial purposes, so I guess I can say that I feel indifferent about this trend overall.
I think I’m the last makeup-obsessed girl that has finally purchased Jaclyn Hill’s ‘Champagne Pop‘ highlighter from Becca Cosmetics. However, personally, I don’t think I will be using it for my ears- I’ll just stick to using it on my face.
Will you take part in the Ear Highlight trend? If so, use the hashtag #earhighlight on Instagram!
