Céline Dion has always had a penchant for the dramatic. So, why would we expect anything less from the commercial for her new children’s clothing line? The line, called Celinununu, is a gender-neutral clothing line for babies and young children. The first ad includes dramatic monologing, glitter, and a few jokes from Celine herself.
The main focus of the line is gender-neutrality. Many parents find gendered clothing promotes harmful stereotypes in their children. Luckily, Dion blows some glitter on the newborn boys and girls in the commercial which transforms their gendered pink and blue clothes to black and white. Many of the onesies feature the saying “New Order;” others are simple stars or letters. On the clothing company’s website, they say they want to “inspire your children to be free and find their own individuality through clothes.”
If you’re interested in buying one of Celine Dion’s gender-neutral onesies, it’ll cost you anywhere from $45 to $95 dollars. Items for older kids range anywhere from about $40 to $290 for a child-sized leather jacket. For many, this may seem pricey for clothes a kid will grow out of in a matter of months. But Celinununu explains that their clothing, “liberates children from the traditional roles of boy/girl” so maybe it’s worth it.
So, what do you think? Is this commercial totally over-the-top or is it creative and fun? Is gender-neutral children’s clothing a necessity to promote individuality in kids? Let us know your opinions in the comments!
