Sometimes you learn something about someone that you never, ever wanted to know.
She Was Dying — But She Wanted To Leave Him
“My mom passed away a few years ago from Cancer. She went for an operation for something mundane and they found out she had cancer. My parents worked hard and were good at saving. My mom managed the finances and did an amazing job. Now my dad is alone and keeps on telling me, ‘I wish your mom was here, I don’t know what to do with all this money. She would have known how to spend it together.’ The sad truth is before my mom went for her operation, she planned on leaving my dad after the whole ordeal was over. She told this to me privately.
After she got diagnosed, he stood by her side and worked from home for months so he could take care of her. He also did an amazing job arranging all aspects of her funeral, even though my mom entrusted that to her sisters.
I told my sister, but I don’t think I could ever tell him.”
He Gave His Grandfather Dentures
“My sister’s boyfriend, while a great guy now, was a troubled youth. He grew up with his grandparents as his dad is in prison and his mom is unreliable (drugs). Once when he was a teenager, he was so angry at his grandfather for some reason so he used his toothbrush to clean the toilet. Funny, right? His grandfather contracted a bacterial infection so bad that he ended up losing all of his teeth and now wears dentures.
I’ll never bring this up to him because he’s a genuinely changed person. I knew him when he was in high school, and he’s nothing like the person he used to be.”
“He Had Left His Love A Polic Of $500,000 And Left His Wife And Son In Crippling Debt”
“My childhood best friend and I drifted apart by the time we hit high school but our moms are still friends. In high school his dad died, and I learned that his mom told my mom who then told me this story: Everyone had always suspected that he was cheating, the marriage was pretty loveless and they came close to divorcing a few times and were in the process of getting ready to do it when he got diagnosed with cancer. Their whole marriage he had refused to get life insurance, even when he got sick. Friend’s mom finally convinced him to get a small package, 5K, just to help cover the funeral expenses, in his son’s name.
A year after his death the wife is going through his papers and finds this paperwork about a life insurance policy that isn’t the one that was for his son. After doing a lot of calling and sleuthing she figures out that he had in fact been having an affair for almost 20 years and had left his lover a policy of $500,000 and left his wife and son in crippling debt. They had to sell their house and move into an apartment.
My friend loved his dad a lot and his mom doesn’t have the heart to tell him about what a piece of crud his dead dad was. I don’t either.”
His Father Was Dying…And He Watched
“I know a guy I grew up with who was hit all the time by his on/off alcoholic lumberjack dad. One day the dad died from some heart failure or what not and when the cause of death report came out, it claimed he had been conscious after the incident had happened before he had died. My friend had told the police he had not been home but had biked to a friends house to see if he wanted to go play basketball. I found out later at a party where we were messing around, when I asked him how it had been to come home to dead dad, that he had been home all the time and had heard his dad scream/gasp in pain and fall over but that he had just stood there, first empty then smiling as his dad withered in pain and slowly expired into unconsciousness and died. Then when my friend was certain his dad was not waking up again, he called ‘911’.
Don’t hit your kids and expect them to come through for you.
It was 1994 in Denmark, EU. The guy was 14 when it happened and last year of elementary school.”
A Niece He Will Never Know
“My brother knocked up his high school girlfriend. They didn’t stay together and he signed his rights away before she was born. Her parents were ultra religious and didn’t want an unwed mother situation in their family. So they adopted the baby and raised it as their own, alongside the real mother who she has believed her whole life was her older sister. Fast forward 20+ years and now she is in college, at the same college I went to, is on Facebook, etc.
The birth mother has her own kids and family and new name.
She has no idea her older sister is actually her mom and her nieces and nephews are actually her half brother and sisters.
I thought about anonymously messaging her but realized it would cause a mental breakdown of my niece so figure it is best not to… But it’s fun watching long lost niece grow up online! I feel creepy at times, but mostly I just feel like a proud uncle. Kind of.”
A Terrible Boss With An Ex-Wife Filled Past
“My boss is going through a divorce and is selling it at work like it is the first time ever and how devastated he is and is using it to gain favor points to get away with coming in 3 hours late and leaving early every day. Not saying that it might not be devastating, but, allow me to go on. By tracking his schedule I have been keeping (Since no one else does) he is working about 15-20 hours per week for the past 4 months. I checked into him, he has been married 4 times previously, he had never been the petitioner for any of the divorces including this one, the deed on his house has been changed several times to add & remove each wife from it as well as re-financed to buy them out.
He is a severe alcoholic and a prick in general.
Yeah, not going to tell him that I dug his life out of the internet like an infected ingrown toenail.”
Turns Out His Friend Has Some…Interesting Tastes
“I was on a Tinder date and the girl’s phone kept blowing up the whole time. Normally this would annoy me to no end, but she was very apologetic every time it happened and explained that some creepy dude is stalking her and wouldn’t leave her alone or take no for an answer. Naturally, we started talking about it. She told me she matched with this guy on Tinder a few days ago and messaged with him for just a few minutes before he started getting really really weird and talking about how he wanted her to watch him do some really crazy stuff (which I have tried my best to forget). She told him she wasn’t into that and quit replying, but he’s been sending her all sorts of messages and unsolicited nude pics since. In the middle of her explaining this, her phone buzzes again and it’s a message from him. She shows it to me and it’s a video of a guy spread eagle naked and pleasuring himself. I said something along the line of ‘What a loser’ just as I realize that the guy in the video is a friend of mine. Not a close friend but definitely in my extended circle. The funny thing is the dude is always talking about how good his game is and how much he gets laid. I told her that I know that guy and now I know way more about him that I ever wanted to. Luckily she didn’t associate me with my friend’s weird behavior and we’ve had many laughs at his expense since.
I never told the guy about it, and I’m pretty sure he has no clue that I know.”
You Are…NOT The Father!
“I’m pretty sure that one of my coworkers from my last job is raising another man’s baby. His girlfriend didn’t tell him she was pregnant until she was supposedly 5 months pregnant, which seems weird. Baby comes about 4 weeks early, but looks and seems full term. This sets off warning signals to me that maybe she isn’t being truthful about when the baby was actually due. I did some math, counting 40 weeks backwards from the baby’s delivery date, and it is very likely that the baby was conceived while he was out of the country for a month, not when he came back, like she was telling everyone.
All of this could be blown off, except that he is a light skinned white man, she is a light skinned half-white, half-Korean woman, and the baby is very clearly half-black. Very dark skin, curly hair, and looks absolutely nothing like ‘daddy.'”
Her Best Friend Had Been Run Out Of Town Before Moving Near Hear!
“When my best friend was young she was messing around on a riding lawn mower when another little girl jumped on it with her but slipped. Her foot was caught under the blade and badly damaged- having to be removed. Apparently the town turned on them and blamed my friend’s mother, essentially chasing them out of town. They moved to their current city (my place) about 8 years ago. One day I was bored in class and googled their names.
I found many newspaper articles and news clips covering the story. I’ll never tell either of them that I know.”
He Used Books To Learn How To Pick Up His Wife
“My husband (of 5 years now) used to keep an external hard drive for his computer when we first got together. He still lived with his parents so he kept all of his personal stuff on it; things like guy stuff, explicit pictures I’d send him, etc. I wasn’t allowed to have the password to it, but I didn’t mind since he didn’t seem like he hid anything. Fast forward to a year after our marriage. We’re living in this quiet apartment and in bliss. He was at work (DM for a cleaning company) and asked me to send the schedules for his employees to his email. He kept all of his work stuff on his external so he had to give me his password. He walked me through the files and along the way I spotted several odd files titled something like ‘how to date,’ ‘how to talk to women,’ ‘get your dream girl,’ etc. Weird, right?
Well, after I sent off the email I decided to dig into the files to see what they were. I was pretty shocked to find that they were all old and from around the time we first met. He actually PAID for how to guides to meet women. They were rather in depth explanations of how to behave when you like a woman. Additionally, he also had paid for an ebook on performing oral.
He used EVERY trick in his books to date me and I felt like a complete idiot for not realizing this. I can’t help but laugh about it now, but at the time it was weird! He’s a great man and has a wonderful personality, but I probably would have left if I had known about it while dating. I’m glad I didn’t because he’s the kind of man you don’t meet very often; handsome, sturdy, caring, generous, and faithful.”
A Fantasy Football Sabotager
“I’m in a fantasy football league at work. I was over on one of those fantasy football internet forums and saw a post that was identical to a question my work buddy asked me that day. Looked at his username and he used his real first name. Checked his user history, and yup, it was him. Instead of spoiling it with a ‘Ha, gotcha buddy!’ right then and there, I’ve been following his posts and giving him bad advice on drops he should make, and lopsided trades he should specifically make with me.
This all started 2 years ago, and he’s since dropped out of contention and is now a basement dwelling bottom feeder at about 9th or 10th place.
The internet is not safe, boys. And fantasy football is serious stuff.”
A Transition He Never Knew About
“A girl from work and I have the same shift, so we start talking and stuff. We’re both in relationships, so we become pretty good friends, no sexual tension, more akin to bros. One night, I decide to do a search for her steam name, and an online account comes up. I find out that only recently she transitioned from Male to Female, including pictures. I think the thing that shocked me the most was putting all of the conversations we’d had in the proper context.
I would never tell her I know, because she has not deemed to share that info, and who am I to make that decision for her?”
They Had Made An Episode Of Law And Order About Her Parents
“A former colleague of mine once mentioned in not-so-passing that her parents had been (or were still in?) prison. I looked up this person’s parents. They had been busted for some bad form trafficking. They had made a Law & Order about them. As I was looking this stuff up, I came across the transcript of their sentencing. Words cannot describe how small I suddenly felt, reading about her parents crying because the judge is telling them that they will not be allowed to see their children one more time before heading off to prison. I had begun my snooping in a mood of dim curiosity, but then it occurred to me that I was invading into a profoundly personal set of painful experiences.
It doesn’t take away from the horrible things that they had done. It must be very hard, being the wholly innocent child of parents who have gone to prison, let alone for something so abominable. It must be very weird to have to suffer through something like that, especially when (I would imagine) most people would probably be extremely unsympathetic to your own plight, even though you had nothing to do with it.
Be nice to people, y’all. You never know what they’ve gone through.”
Father Of The Year?
“I have a friend, we were closer when we were like 19 years old, he was kind of ugly, and while all our friends were bragging on how much they were getting laid, he was super shy, and had never even kissed a girl. After some time he began to get depressed and we started to be worried about him, but we didn’t really know what to do. Until one day, when he came to us with a huge smile, and began to tell us that he just gotten with a beautiful thirty-something year woman. Of course, we didn’t believe him, and we decided to follow him one day when we know that the two were meeting. So, the woman really existed! After they said goodbye to each other we started following her, to see if she really was beautiful.
While we were following her, we saw our friend’s father, he greeted the woman and gave her money. So we realized she was a…professional. I never told that to him, but after that day he became more confident, and now he even have a girlfriend.”
