Tattoos have become so popular it now seems almost everyone is rocking at least one. The black out tattoo trend has taken over Instagram and we're not sure what to think of these all black tats. Check out these 15 pictures to see some amazing works of black out tattoo art.
It’s no secret tattoos have become as mainstream as having a few ear piercings.

Just look at all that black!
But the newest tattoo trend is far from mainstream, in fact it’s quite extreme.

The delicate fade into the rose definitely makes this tattoo.
The “blackout tattoo” trend recently hit Instagram and it has been met with a lot of shock and controversy.

It almost resembles black paint.
From people loving the extreme tattoo look, to others absolutely hating it, it’s been going viral.

We're not completely sold on it yet.
Tattoo artist, Chester Lee of Oracle Tattoo in Singapore has specialized in these “blackout tattoos” for about five years.

The remarkable contrast between the two side of his body is amazing.
He recently posted this photo to Instagram and since then it has racked up thousands of likes and comments.

This piece took Chester Lee about 20 hours to complete.
From arm pieces to leg pieces, the full black tattoo takes many, many hours to complete.

It does do its job as a good coverup though.
Some people are using this trend as a way to cover up old tattoos.

You can't even see the old piece.
And others are using the black as a background for vibrant graphic designs.

This is one of our favorites. It may look harsh, but it's delicate underneath.
Whatever the reason, tattoo lovers need to think long and hard before jumping on this trend.

A whole arm?! Ouch!
This tattoo design using negative space and solid black is absolutely incredible.

This is pure talent and a beautiful masterpiece.
And others are opting for a full black sleeve to rock this trend.

This just looks painful.
For tattoo lovers this has to be the ultimate relationship goals.

Matching blackout tattoos ftw.
While you won’t catch us sporting an all black sleeve anytime soon…

The black looks much better with an intricate design placed inside.
If you have a love of tattoos, the confidence and the time, we say go ahead and rock it!

This guy sure loves his tattoos!
