How’d She Miss That?

“I wore her engagement ring for a couple of days until she noticed it and asked me about it. Then I said, ‘Oh yeah, almost forgot, will you marry me?'” (Source)

Kids Just Can’t Keep Things Secret!

“I have a daughter from a previous relationship. My girlfriend, who’s now my wife, asked her what daddy got her for Christmas. My daughter blurts out, ‘A ring with a diamond on it, it’s in his closet.’ Needless to say there was an impromptu proposal later that night, and learned 5-year-olds can’t keep secrets. It caught her off guard. Surprised in a good way, she knew we were getting to that point in our relationship. At first I was a little disappointed because I was planning a whole big thing, but now my daughter will always be part of the story. I always smile when I think about it” (Source)

“My brother asked his then girlfriend to marry him shortly after getting his gallbladder removed. He was still in a hospital gown in the bed hooked up to machines. I believe one of his lines was, ‘I may not have as many organs as other guys'” (Source)

The Perfect Suprise

“I paint, but after graduating college, I had very little time to set aside for it, trying to find a job and join the ‘real world’ and all. My girlfriend kept encouraging me to paint, but what she didn’t know is, using late nights and cracks of free-time, I had secretly started a portrait of her, which I was going to use to propose. I even bought an engaging ring, and put that exact ring in the painting.

Once I finished the painting, I snuck it and the ring into her house and hid them in her basement, ready to be pulled out when the time was right. The next day, after we got back to her house after being out for the evening, I quickly slipped down in the basement when she went upstairs, grabbed the painting and ring, and started up the stairs to her room where she was.

I told her as I walked up the steps that I needed to talk to her, that I had a confession to make and I hadn’t been completely honest with her. By her tone, she obviously was starting to get a little concerned, but I told her that for the past couple months I have actually been painting, and I’ve been painting a portrait of her. I flipped the painting, she sees the ring in painting, starts to cry, and I get down on one knee, producing the ring in the painting. The rest is history” (Source)

“A guy I knew in the Army told his girl they had dinner reservations at a specific time and to be ready. He then called her and said he was very sorry, but had been delayed at the base and, to make it up to her, had sent a limo to take her to the restaurant. Instead, the limo driver, as directed, drove her to a local pier where the guy I knew had lined candles up both sides and was standing at the end in his full dress uniform complete with white gloves and saber. “I bought her those 25 cents cheap rings out of vending machines when we first started dating and would propose to her openly in front of people wherever and whenever – it made people around us applaud and try to buy our drinks/food (we always turned it down). I stopped doing it over time. Seven years later we were in our favorite coffee shop, I pulled out a plastic vending machine bubble and proposed in front of people. “We had been building a 1000pc Doctor Who puzzle, that was a surprisingly difficult build. At this point, us getting married was kind of a forgone conclusion, but not officially. I had removed a piece of the puzzle and taken it home (we lived in different cities about 90 miles away), and she had completed the puzzle after a few weeks but could not find the last piece. She was so pissed off about it. Meanwhile I had gotten her ring, a really awesome vintage rose gold solitaire with a halo, and the day her frustration about that d— puzzle piece came to a head I thought it was time. I got off work and drove to her house. When she came to the door, I handed her the ring box with the missing puzzle piece and proposed with the actual ring when she made the puzzle whole” (Source)

“We did a lot of geocaching early in our relationship. So I hid my own geocache box the day before that contained all things relating to our relationship that I had saved: movie tickets, letters, notes, receipts, etc. Then while she was reading the ‘log book,’ which I had written a note in, I went behind her and knelt down and waited” (Source)

“Both me and her are huge Disney fans, so we were at Magic Kingdom right before the Wishes fireworks. “We went on a new hike. It was an unusually mild winter, so we hiked to a vista point. About seven miles round trip. Of course there was a group up there when we arrived. I really didn’t want to make a scene so I waited for them to leave. Thankfully it wasn’t windy or cold up top, so we waited around and they left finally. I finally got down on one knee and tried to blurb out this amazing speech I had pieced together in my mind for the last three miles. It went terrible, and as I stopped to compose myself she said, ‘Are you serious!’ For a brief moment I thought I had misjudged the last four years of our relationship. Then to my relief though she started doing these awkward hops of joy while screaming, ‘Yes, yes, yes,’ and I slid the ring on her finger.

“My now husband proposed to me over a weekend vacation to New Orleans (my favorite place). It was also my birthday, so after a lovely day out and about and a great birthday dinner we walked over to Jackson Square and sat down to soak up the atmosphere. He started saying the sweetest things and like a fool I was like, ‘Yep, be nice to me, it’s my birthday, haha,’ then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was so lovely!” (Source)

A Real Home Run

“My husband and I are huge baseball fans (Baltimore Orioles!). Well, a few years ago, The Orioles went to the playoffs for the first time in years. My husband managed to nab a pair of tickets for us to go. My parents and uncle and cousin also had tickets. We all meet up by the statues of former Oriole players before the game. My uncle gets a video camera out and my husband hands his DSLR to my cousin (I thought it was weird for a second, but thought nothing else of it). I just figured they were gonna shoot some of the scene around us.

I sat down on the bench and my husband hands me a baseball that says, ‘Will you marry me?’ in his crappy (but adorable) handwriting. He then got down on one knee and proposed. I’ve never been more surprised in my life! And to top it all off, the Orioles played an amazing game and hit home run after home run. It was awesome!” (Source)

“I made a huge ‘MARRY ME’ Christmas decoration that covered about 1/4 of the tree and then put the ring at the top instead of the star. I was up early and waited patiently for her to come out into the living room. She walked by and I had a huge smile on my face. She looked at it and said, ‘Oh,’ in the least excited way possible. I was pretty crushed.

She told me she was just still really tired and hadn’t processed what was happening, but once she properly woke up she did say yes. She had actually proposed to me in a restaurant about two years earlier and I said no at the time, so we’re pretty good at squashing climactic moments” (Source)
