10 Worst Skin Care Mistakes

By Minq Team
Luna Vandoorne

Every woman wants beautiful, clear skin, but not every woman knows how to get it. Some serums and creams promise flawless skin, but come at a major price. Don't open your wallet to get the skin of your dreams, just avoid these common mistakes!

No SPF

Not using protection against the sun’s harmful rays is on of the worst things you could do to your skin. Not only are you putting yourself at risk of skin care, but you are aging your skin like crazy. Yeah a tan might look nice but it can cause dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. Look for a BB cream, foundation, or tinted moisturizer that has SPF already in it.

Over Exfoliating

When women see a blemish, they go crazy and scrub really hard thinking they are doing their skin a favor. Guess what? They’re not! You only need to slough away the dead skin cells about once a week, not every day. This gives your new baby skin cells a chance to grow, replenish, and rehydrate. Over-exfoliating can cause dry skin, scarring, and fine lines!

Sleeping In Makeup

Sometime sleeping in your makeup seems like a reasonable idea, like if you come home at 2 am or if you’re spending the night at a guy’s house and you’re just not at the naked face level yet. But, it’s never a good idea! If you want to wake up with gorgeous, glowing skin you need to properly clean it and give it time to breathe. If you’re wearing makeup while your skin is trying to renew itself, it can causes blemishes, dry, and dull skin.

Being Too Rough On The Eyes

Eye makeup can be really stubborn, especially if it is waterproof. But did you know the skin around your eyes is very thin and very susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles? When you scrub them with makeup remover or pull on the skin a lot it will start to sag early and that’s not a pretty look. You have to be very gentle with the eyes. Try coconut oil and your fingers to gently remove makeup instead of rough cotton rounds and baby oil.

Touch Face Too Much

This is an awful habit that many women have. When we are bored, nervous, or self-conscious we touch our face a lot. Not only is that taking off makeup, but also it is stretching out the skin and packing it with all the gross oils and germs that were on our hands. This is a hard habit to break, but really try to work at it. Your face will thank you.

Not Sleeping Enough

Beauty sleep is a real thing; it’s not just an expression! Your skin renews itself while you’re catching your Zzz’s. If you don’t sleep the adequate 7 to 9 hours a night your skin doesn’t have enough time to do its job. You will wake up with dull and tired looking skin. Yuck, who wants that?

Over Treating

We have all been there. You go through a week with glowing, flawless skin, but then suddenly wake up with a massive zit. Panic mode! You throw ten different products on the monster in a frenzied attempt to calm it down. All those products aren’t helping at all. Stick to one tried and true product and don’t pick at it! Wait for it to fade on it’s own. In the mean time use green tinted concealer to cover it. The green counteracts the red blemish, hiding it better.

Bar Soap

Do you use bar soap to wash everything in the shower? Stop! Bar soap leaves the skin very dry. It should not be used on your face because it strips the skin of the natural oils it uses to stay fresh, smooth, and healthy. Try a moisturizing face wash instead.

Hot Water

When winter rolls around, nothing seems more magical and relaxing than a hot shower or bath. But hot water dehydrates your skin, making it itchy and dry. Instead take a lukewarm shower and blot your face dry, instead of scrubbing it with the towel.

Forgetting To Moisturize

The first thing you should do after showering is apply moisturizer to your face. This helps lubricate the skin and trap in moisture. This is especially important in very dry climates, like winter or dry heat, since dry air and wind pull moisture out of the skin and leave it flakey.
