Roseanne Barr used to be a standup comedian, although she is best known for her starring role in the TV sitcom ‘Roseanne.’ The actress recently appeared on a podcast and touched on multiple subjects, including reuniting with a daughter she gave up for adoption.
Barr joined Bunnie XO for an interview on her ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast, where she reflected on the reunion. Bunnie brings up the topic, clarifying, “After you had gotten out of the psychiatric hospital, seventeen, you end up getting pregnant and having a baby. And then you give your baby up for adoption, but you rekindle later on down the road. Can you tell me about that journey? Because it’s so beautiful.
Roseanne obliged. She explains that she kept her child for a week but ultimately gave her up to “Jewish Family and Children Services there in Denver.” She explains that she knew she would always be able to find her.
Barr recalls telling her child at the time, “Well, I’ll see you when you’re 18. I knew, and I knew I’d be famous. and I knew because I had my show, so I left my name, Roseanne Barr.” The actress explains that what she said came to pass, and her daughter, Brandi, sought her out at 17 and a half. Bunnie asked if her daughter always knew about her, and Barr responded, “No. But I always knew we would find each other when she was 18.” She added, “I was on TV, and that’s how she found me.”
Rosanne’s Daughter Believed Her Mother Was Goldie Hawn
Rosanne revealed that her daughter initially thought her mother was Goldie Hawn because they resembled each other. “All she knew was that her mother was famous in Hollywood and Jewish,” she explained. Barr also reveals a messy chain of events that led to the meeting, including her partner at the time allegedly selling stories about her behind her back.
“The Enquirer (a newspaper) called her, and she answered the phone, my daughter, Brandi, and they said would you like to know who your mother is?” Barr says her daughter was excited, expecting her mom to be Goldie Hawn. When they told Brandi it was Roseanne Barr, she allegedly said, “Christ, I didn’t even know she was a Jew!” Barr exclaims, “Which is so hilarious.” She says that her daughter looked down at the cover of The Enquirer with her face on the front cover and quickly noticed how alike they looked. “And she took the picture to the mirror and was going, ‘I do, I look exactly like her.”
Barr met Brandi and Brandi’s mom the following day and the three have remained in touch since. She told Bunnie, “And we’ve been back together since then, and she is now 53. And she is awesome. She has a son and a lovely husband, and she’s a wonderful woman.”
