Be careful with hair products if your hair has ever been colored!
While it’s fun to talk about Instagram hair trends of bleaching hair, adding crazy colors, and using different hair products, it is important to do your research on what a product is intended for and the warnings included with different hair products.
An important story to educate yourself on hair care on comes from YouTuber Hannah Forcier, and her experience with one product drastically changed the way she feels about hair and her newfound meaning of beauty.
Hannah uploaded a video in October of 2017 titled: ‘how all my hair fell out by making one mistake: story time‘.
The video has gone viral with over 5 million views, after popping up in many people’s ‘Recommended for you’ YouTube video sidebar.
In the video, Hannah explains how she went from having long brown hair to then bleaching it out for the first time in order to dye it pink.
“I used my hair as a thing to express myself.”
Hannah said that she purchased a new hair product that she thought would help it out. So she covered her hair with the hair cream and waited for the recommended 20 minutes.
After waiting for the cream to settle in, she went to the shower to wash out the product and noticed something wasn’t right with her hair. She said that her hair felt clumpy and started falling out in the water.
“I could feel my hair coming out and going down my back and splashing in the water. It started just coming out in patches.”
After experiencing the trauma of losing her hair, she went into a salon, hoping to get extensions. However, the salon told her that her hair was too short and there was not much that they could do.
A week later, Hannah uploaded a follow-up video talking about the product she used, which was a drugstore-bought hair relaxer and conditioner. Respectfully, Hannah did not reveal the name of the product as she did not want to slander the company that created the product. She wasn’t aware of the dangers of the product, in regards to how it would affect bleached/colored hair, or else she obviously would’ve never used it. She educated herself afterward and learned that perms and relaxers are for virgin hair (natural hair that has never been colored).
Thankfully her hair will grow again and Hannah is learning to love herself and stick to her natural color for a long time.
I have to say, Hannah is extremely brave for putting herself out there and telling her story. Hair or no hair, Hannah is radiating beauty in her message to educate people and to help others out who may be going through something similar.
