13 Famous Denim Moments You Need To Revisit

In terms of fashion choices, denim is one material that has a strong history in America. Whether it's a cowboy out West or a fashion model on the streets of New York, denim is an essential fabric that can also be utilized to be truly unique at the same time. Today, denim is at a whole new level, so it's worth a visit to some famous moments in the history of the popular fabric. How many of these pop culture denim moments do you remember?

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake

At the 2001 American Music Awards, this infamous incident became a red carpet moment we’d never forget. Seeing these all-denim outfits today will remind you of everything you’ve been trying to forget about the early 2000s. The moment was so iconic that Katy Perry recreated the look in 2014.

Bruce Springsteen

For The Boss’s classic “Born in the USA” album cover, the white T-shirt and blue jeans with a red hat in the back pocket entered into the canon of the most famous album artwork of all time.

The 90210 cast

Since 1990, “Beverly Hills 90210” has used light-washed denim on the beloved gang to illustrate what life was like for these characters. A seemingly obvious costuming choice, today it harkens back memories of growing up just like Brandon, Brenda, Kelly, Steve, Andrea, Dylan, David and Donna did.

Daisy Duke

“The Dukes of Hazzard” character Daisy Mae Duke, who was played by actress Catherine Bach, made her tiny denim shorts so popular that they style is now appropriately called “Daisy Dukes.”

Marky Mark and Kate Moss

No denim list is complete without the inclusion of this 1992 Calvin Klein underwear ad, which famously featured then-rapper Mark Wahlberg and supermodel Kate Moss baring all but keeping some denim on. Iconic!

TLC

Legendary girl group TLC famously did denim their own way, making extra-large and low-sagging denim as hip and cool as their music sounded.

John Wayne

Wayne, one of the most famous actors of all time, was almost always seen wearing a pair of blue jeans. Wearing Levi’s in all of his famous Westerns, he brought denim to the masses.

Brooke Shields

This 1980 Calvin Klein ad featuring Brooke Shields was shot by famous fashion photographer Richard Avedon, which shocked the public with its provocative pose by a then 15-year old Shields. “You wanna know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” Alright!

Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando catapulted the denim lifestyle into the mainstream with his famous bad-boy film portrayals, like in “The Wild One.” The movies were so influential that some schools in America even banned denim from their dress codes as a result. Now that’s bad-ass.

Madonna

In yet another display of American patriotism and denim overlapping, Madonna’s video for “American Pie” featured the singer donning a famous pair of patched blue jeans. Classic.

The Ramones

If you own a pair of ripped jeans, you have The Ramones to thank. Their ripped denim jeans paired with a cool leather jacket made punk history that’s still alive today.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Sure, this teen movie was less about the pants themselves and more about the friendship between four best friends. But still, the denim Levi’s played an integral role to the plot of this beloved book and film adaptation.

Thelma and Louise

The classic movie “Thelma & Louise” features one awesome denim moment after another, whether it was Brad Pitt’s famous denim shirt or the pair’s classic high-waisted jeans.
