11 Tips for Surviving Black Friday

By Minq Team

Black Friday is the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season. It is also when many retailers offer tremendous bargains on various kinds of merchandise including big ticket items. Finding such bargains often requires advanced planning and even a willingness to sometimes bend the standard rules just a little bit.

Start Early

Clothing deals can start as early as late Thursday. Consider an early Thanksgiving so you can get a head start on the deals they offer. And be sure to stock up on coffee or energy drinks to combat that after-turkey sleepiness!

Go To Luxury Outlets

Nordstrom Rack and Last Call by Neiman Marcus often have wonderful deals on fabulous Christmas gifts right in the store. Knowing where and when to shop can help you save money and get the gifts you want.

Get Virtual

Cyber Monday is the internet version of Black Friday. Consider shopping at this time as well. This year Cyber Monday may start as early as Saturday so be prepared to look for bargains at that time.

Act Fast

If you see a bargain, be prepared to act as fast as possible. It may not be there 10 minutes from now. Start thinking about what you want to buy and how much you’re willing to pay before you reach the stores.

Bring A Partner

Don’t shop alone. Bring a good friend with you. Two pairs of eyes can spot the best deals far more quickly than a single person.

Bring Various Forms Of Payment

Bring your credit cards with you as well as cash and any other form of payment you have. A store may only take Visa or Mastercard.

Make A List In Advance

Think carefully before you start to shop. Have a list of products in mind that you wish to find. Your son may have his eye on a particular game while your daughter just loves pink dresses. Think about what suits each person before you shop.

Read Media Outlets At Least A Week In Advance

Many stores announce their deals well in advance. Read your local newspaper to search for bargains that will only be available on Black Friday, and follow your favorite stores on social media. Knowing what is probably going to be available will help narrow down your choices.

Involve The Family

Ask your husband to help you find things for his family. Have your older children search for items their cousins might like. Turn Black Friday into a fun, annual tradition that the entire family can use to learn about how to shop.

Bring Your Own Cart

Use a baby stroller if you have one in the house. If you don’t, bring a shopping cart with you to help carry all the items that you find. This is particularly useful but if you are looking for larger items like televisions that can bulky and hard to carry around long distances.

Dress Comfortably

Comfortable clothing is a must when shopping on Black Friday. Wear shoes that won’t pinch your feet. Dress lightly but appropriately for the weather outside. A thick coat can get in your way.
