12 Reasons To Hope Early 2000s Fashion Doesn’t Come Back

The early 2000s really don't seem like too long ago, but in terms of fashion sense they were lightyears away. And while so many millenials look back on the time period with nothing but fondness, I think we can all agree that some of the trends are pretty unforgivable. Sure, we miss some parts of the early 2000s, but we hope these styles stay a thing of the past.

Peasant Tops

Maybe if you have a renaissance fair booked on your calendar within the next month, then maybe, only maybe, is it acceptable for you to be buying a peasant top.

Shrugs

Even the name sounds unattractive.  These half cardigans were usually bedazzled, loosely knit, or tied in the front.  Bonus points if your favorite shrug had all three components!

Layered Polos

Admit it, this was the epitome of your grade school fashion.  Layering your tight polos from American Eagle or Abercrombie was the “coolest” thing to do, especially if you popped both collars.

Butterfly Hair Clips

These colorful, sparkly clips were all the rage in the early 2000’s.  The more you could fit in your hair, the better you looked. The butterfly hair clips are still around, but they now come in neutral colors that blend into your hair color, which is awesome for anyone over the age of seven.

Chunky Highlights

Lets hope big, thick highlights are a thing of the past. While highlights are an inevitable and frequent request at any hair salon, downright stripy hairstyles should be left to the zebras.

Dresses Over Jeans

Ever heard of the saying, “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”? Well, this should be applied to anyone who attempts to layer a dress over a pair of flare jeans.

Belt Loosely Hung Around Hips

Look people of the 2000s, its blatantly obvious that the severely loose belt you just hung around your hip isn’t really doing anything. Although, lets be honest, maybe we should just be thankful that they chose to hang a belt around their waist instead of their father’s tie – yeah, that was a thing too.

Peasant Skirts

You thought peasant tops where bad? Try peasant skirts. It’s clear that there should be a ban on any item of clothing involving the word ‘peasant’.

Writing Across the Butt

Having writing across the butt of sweatpants wasn’t a good look then and to repeat this style would be downright shameful. What was even worse was what brands chose to write across their customer’s butts.

Ribbed Tanks

Ribbed tanks were huge in the 2000s, by themselves and layered. There were worse trends, but of all the tanks you could go for, ribbed should definitely be last on this list.

Velour Tracksuit

You know the ones. Juicy Couture where spewing these onto the frames of many a female during the 2000s. Now that they’re closing all their US stores, hopefully we are safe from any chance of a velour tracksuit revival.

Unnecessary Layering

Layering can be a great and practical look, but in the 2000s layering got downright unnecessary. It was not unheard of to layer one ribbed tank top on top of another and almost every t-shirt had another layer of clothing sticking out underneath.

Tiered Miniskirts

Cakes are great, but it’s not great to look like a cake. Going along with the layering theme of the 2000s, tiered miniskirts were a great way to fake wearing about three different layers of clothing.

Corduroy Jackets

Corduroy jackets are like a denim jackets, but not – not at all. They came in all different colors from teal to orange, but the most popular one to go for was a dark chocolate brown.

Cargo Pants

There’s just no excuse for cargo pants, especially the ones that zip off into shorts – that’s right, those existed too. Even if you were carrying 4 purses and still didn’t have enough room, that wouldn’t be a good enough reason to have 10 different pockets on one pair of pants.
