Being a little on the shorter side has it's ups and downs. Some people embrace their petite figure, whereas others try to create a taller appearance. If you are on the shorter end of the height spectrum and wish you weren’t, here are a few fashion tips to elongate your silhouette and create the illusion of height.

Go Monochrome

Wearing the same or similar colors from head to toe can elongate your body, making you appear taller. When you wear a bunch of different colors it breaks up your silhouette, making you appear shorter.

Have a Tailor on Speed Dial

Every fashionista knows that sometimes there is just no perfect size to fit your body type. That’s when a tailor comes in handy. Don’t be afraid of getting your clothes altered to fit perfectly. If you don’t know exactly what needs to be done to your clothes, tailors and seamstresses should be your go-to girls because they are trained in that sort of thing!

Get Vertical

Have you heard that horizontal lines can make you appear wider? Well if that is true, then vertical lines must have the opposite effect, making your appear longer. If stripes aren’t your thing, you don’t need to wear a bunch of them. Just one vertical stripe will have the same lengthening effect.

Pointed Flats

Pointed toes create the appearance of longer legs. But if heels really aren’t you’re thing, don’t worry. Wear pointed toe flats to get the same elongated appearance without having to sacrifice your comfort.

Pay Attention To Necklines

Add the illusion of height on top by choosing a V, scoop, or plunging neckline. All three elongate your torso making you look taller. Plus these types of necklines are usually more flattering on the body as a whole, compared to higher necklines, like crew or collar.

Hello Heels

Duh, heels make you taller. Not only do they give you a few extra inches but they also elongate your legs, lift your butt and make you appear slimmer! For some extra length try nude pumps. At a glance the nude pumps serve as an extension of your legs, making them look supermodel long.

High-Waisted

High waisted pants, shorts, and skirts play up the proportions of your body, making your legs appear longer. It’s like an optical illusion. Not to mention high-waisted bottoms create a fabulous beyonce-like hourglass figure on pretty much anyone.

Must-Have Maxis

You might have heard someone say that long dresses and skirts don’t work on short girls. Wrong! While some skirts, like full or pleated, do tend to swallow up a petite body, some maxi skirts can totally be your friend. The trick for making the maxi work for you is to go for sleek skirts that have a straight cut.

Proportional Pants

If you want to make yourself appear taller it’s important to choose pants that give you the right proportions. Wide legs or pants with a lot of volume can make you appear kind of short and stout. Instead try a fitted style that isn’t too bulky, like boot cut or slightly flared.

Confidence is Key

Above all else, have confidence. No matter how short or tall you are wear what you love and love what you wear. We gave you just a few tips for creating the illusion of length, but exuding happiness and confidence will take you to new heights!

Belt It

Belts can be a tricky subject for shorties who want to elongate their look. They can either be your best friend and show off your beautiful hourglass body and be your worst enemy and cut your body in half. Usually skinny belts are the way to go because they give you better proportions.

Better in Black

Darker colors are not only good for creating a slim silhouette, but also a sleek and streamlined one. Talk about a win-win! Overall, dark colors, like black, grey, and navy can elongate your body making you appear taller.
