10 Fashion Rules To Break

By Minq Team
Diana Indiana

Forget what all the fashion magazines say about what's in, what's out, and what looks best with what! Show off your unique personality with your own personal sense of style. It's time to break those fashion dos and don'ts.

No White After Labor Day

In the past white was viewed solely as a spring and summer color, whereas darker colors were reserved for the colder months. This is a rule that is begging to get broken. White is such an elegant color that goes well with any season. White sweaters and oversized coats are a classy way to dress up your winter wardrobe if it is feeling a little too somber.

No Mixing Prints

Yeah right! Mixed prints are so fun and laid back. Even fashion designers are breaking their original rule. Mixed prints can be seen on the runway, in the editorials, and of course, on the streets. Forget everything you heard about mixing prints. Mix different color prints, different styles, and multiple pieces. This is a great way to create your own style.

Matching Bags And Shoes

This rule might be as old as our grandmothers, but it was originally thought that the color of your shoes had to match the color of your bag. As if! The chicest styles come from boldly colored shoes and bags. The more color, the merrier. Especially now with so many cute color-blocked bags and shoes its nearly impossible to match.

No Navy And Black

Like the no brown and brown rule, which can also be broken, navy and black were two colors that previously did not get along. But you can play peace keeper and get these colors back together again. Navy, black, and brown are neutral colors which means they go with anything, and it’s true. Mix a navy dress with a brown belt and black shoes; no one is going to judge.

Stockings With Open-Toe Shoes

Puh-lease, have you seen the runway? Now that tights and peep toe shoes are in women everywhere are happily ignoring this rule. This is a great way to wear your cute summer shoes year-round. Just be sure to tuck the seam of the sock under your toes so it doesn’t show.

Tall Women And Heels

No one can tell you what you can’t wear. If you have a beautiful collection of stunning shoes, but you’re a tall amazon woman, own it! Since when is being tall something you should cover up? Being tall is a commodity, not a curse. If heels make you feel like a super model, wear them and be happy.

Short Women And Long Skirts

Previously it has been said that long skirts make short women look shorter. Not true! Long skirts elongate the legs and actually make short women appear taller. Just like with tall women and heels, if you have a beyond cute maxi dress you are obsessed with, wear it! If you’re worried you look too stout, add some adorable wedges.

Shorts Are For Summer

This is another rule designers are breaking. Shorts with tights or leg warmers gives off such a chic but relaxed appearance and it makes the legs appear longer. Pair grey wool shorts with burgundy tights and combat boots for a look that is straight off the runway, but will still keep you warm.

Sparkle Is For Night

You don’t need to reserve the sparkle for a night out. Maybe you shouldn’t wear your sequined clubbing dress to work, but you can still add some glitz to your day wardrobe. Sequined embellishments are the perfect touch to glam up a basic t-shirt. Or look for shoes with a little extra sparkle for a subtle, but fun look.

Red Heads Can’t Wear Red

It’s true that some shades of red aren’t the most flattering on people with red hair, but that could be said about every hair color and skin tone. Have you seen Christina Hendricks? She should be every red heads fashion inspiration. The curvaceous red head rocks a red gown on almost every red carpet event and looks absolutely stunning.
