Who Doesn’t Love Dogs?

There’s no denying dogs hold a special place in our hearts; dogs are the perfect companion and are always there for the good and the bad. Nicknamed as “man’s best friend,” many people adopt dogs solely for their cuddly and loving nature. Also, who doesn’t love having an adorable furry face greet them at the door at the end of a tough day?
One Redditor named Sidney knows this all too well, as she has been the proud owner of a beautiful German Shepard, Waffle, for a few years. But when disaster struck one fateful day, Sidney knew she had to do everything in her power to make Waffle as comfortable as she possibly could. Little did she know there would be a major hiccup along the way.

Tragedy Strikes

Sidney always enjoyed spending time with Waffle; the 11-year-old dog was always down for some snuggles, playing with a tennis ball, or the ever-popular walk with his owner. Unfortunately, tragedy struck in late 2018. Waffle was hit by a car while he was outside playing one day, which unfortunately lead to an array of issues for the poor pup.
“He had seizures, urine issues, a constant fear of anything going fast near him,” Sidney recalled of Waffle’s behavior. “I couldn’t throw a ball anymore.”
Seeing Waffle’s drastic shift in personality broke Sidney’s heart, but it was absolutely destroyed when she had to make the difficult decision to rehome her puppy, Lola. Having the energetic little fur ball around made Waffle so stressed, and Sidney did not want to create further issues. It was with great sadness she sent Lola to live with a close friend.
Although heartbroken over parting with Lola, Sidney kept her head high. She knew she made the right decision for both dogs, even though it pained her to do so. Luckily, good news was right around the corner for Waffle.

Things Are Looking Up

Slowly but surely, Waffle began to recover from the accident. He was prescribed zonimade, which began greatly reducing his seizures. His personality was slowly beginning to return, and Sidney was thrilled to see her dog behaving normally once more.
The biggest break came when Sidney took Waffle in for a regular check-up, and was discussing how to help Waffle regain mobility in his legs with the veterinarian. The vet mentioned a special cane, equipped with “sensory objects on the end to prevent him from bumping into furniture.” With some luck and physical therapy, Waffle would be able to use this cane and be able to walk again.
Trying not to get her hopes up, Sidney agreed to let Waffle test out the cane right there in the office. To her surprise and delight, Waffle loved it; his mood instantly improved, and he was the happiest he had been since before the car accident.
However, everything must come with a price. The cane was way too expensive for Sidney to afford given her current financial status. She decided to opt for more physical therapy sessions, as those had been working fairly well for Waffle.
Although she did not have enough money for the equipment, Sidney could at least take Waffle for walks in their local park again. She was excited to be able to enjoy time with Waffle outside the vet’s office, and Waffle was equally happy. Neither of them suspected the misery that would await them on what seemed like a regular walk.

Meeting Jacob In The Park

Everyone dreams of having a meet-cute in the park; locking eyes with a beautiful stranger, and hoping a conversation will soon follow. For most people, this doesn’t happen – they simply see another attractive person and go on their way. But in the back of their mind, they’re definitely thinking, “What would have happened if I simply said ‘Hello!’ when I had the chance? Could that have maybe have lead to something more?”
Sidney, like most people, had these thoughts as well. But she had never acted upon those thoughts, as she was too shy to do so. Much to her surprise, she actually mustered up the courage to greet a good-looking man, “Jacob,” as she and Waffle were taking their daily walk through a nearby park.
Sidney and Jacob hit it off immediately, talking as though they were old friends. An outsider looking in may have thought these two had been friends for years, not mere minutes. After conversing for several minutes, the two decided to see each other in a more romantic setting. Thrilled she had met a nice and wonderful guy, Sidney agreed.
The pair proceeded to become more and more intimate, and eventually became a couple. Sidney was so blinded by her attraction for Jacob that she never saw what was coming next.

Jacob Seemed Interested, But For The Wrong Reasons

Although it can be a bit uncomfortable, every couple needs to have the “finance” discussion at some point. This talk is crucial because money has a huge impact on a couple’s future. If they’ll be able to buy a house, car, take a big trip or even something as big as wedding planning can be severely impacted if one of them has money issues.
Sidney was fully aware of the importance of this conversation and brought up the subject with Jacob one day. She mentioned how expensive the cane Waffle tested was, but that she had plans to buy it for him. Yes, it would take a bit of time to save up the necessary funds, but Sidney was willing to do whatever it took to help her fur child get back to feeling like his old self.
However, the “how” was proving to be a bit difficult; Sidney had finally paid off the debts from Waffle’s prior treatments and was a bit wary of opening another card out of fear of what it would do to her credit score. So, she picked the old fashion route and started saving cash in a fireproof chest.
Jacob was fully invested in her plans to save money for the cane, and at first, Sidney thought it was because he genuinely cared about Waffle and his well-being. But not everything is as it seems, and Jacob had some sinister motives.

The Reason Why Jacob Was Interested

As the weeks went on, Sidney continued to save her hard-earned cash. She was getting closer and closer to her goal every day, and was excited to update Jacob on her progress. As she headed over to his house for their weekly date, she couldn’t help but notice Jacob had gotten a new computer. It was an expensive one, and Sidney knew Jacob wasn’t exactly rolling in cash.
When she asked him where he got the money, Jacob simply replied, “I stole it from Waffle’s cane funds.”
Everything seemed to freeze in place as Sidney came to terms with the bomb Jacob had just dropped. Every dime and penny Sidney had worked so hard to save was gone. All those months of saving every spare dollar meant absolutely nothing now.
Fueled with rage, Sidney unleashed a verbal tirade on this pathetic excuse of a human. Trying to justify his horrible actions, Jacob simply replied, “He’s half-dead anyway, you need to let go.”
Sidney could not believe her ears; Waffle was nowhere near dead, and even if he was, that did not give Jacob the right to steal from her.
Sidney was now faced with a difficult choice; should she let it go, or call the police and ruin his life? She felt absolutely trapped and humiliated for easily trusting him.
One Redditor firmly believed she should call the police because of Jacob “[stole] money from [her]. That guy doesn’t care about [her] feelings or [Waffle] at all. He stole the money he knew [she] needed to treat [her] baby. He has no empathy and no morality. That could get super dangerous for [her] in the future if [she stayed] with him.”

Will She Make The Tough Call?

Another Redditor jumped on the bandwagon, stating “This guy stole [her] dog’s emergency fund, and flat out told [her] he didn’t give a [care in the world] about [her] dog. Since [she] loves [her] dog, he should also care about [her] dog, he doesn’t. So by extension, he doesn’t give [even really care] about and what [she] values.”
Both of these comments point to one major detail; Jacob doesn’t seem to care about Sidney or Waffle at all, and only does what he thinks is best for himself. There’s no telling if he has pulled this behavior in the past (which, given his attitude, seems very likely), and if he will do it again in the future (which, once more, seems very likely).
Ending a romantic relationship, even if it’s for a reason as appalling as this one. However, seeing how much Sidney cares about Waffle, the decision is clear; she needs to end things with Jacob immediately. Neither of them should have to be around such toxic behavior, and forcing Jacob out of their lives would be the best thing for them.
No one said the decision to break up with a significant other is easy, but sometimes the hardest decisions are the ones people need to make.
