When you first meet that special someone, there’s always butterflies and rainbows whenever you see them, and then you start to think things could last forever. But then they show their true colors and you realize just how wrong you were. Everyone probably has that one ex that didn’t handle rejection well and tried any and everything to back with them.

Well, one Reddit user wished her brother had taken note of warning signs sooner because the ultimate living nightmare his ex Pam put them through has scarred her and her family for the rest of their living days.

Hopefully One Day Darren Will Settle Down

Ashley and her older brother Darren were as close as siblings could be. He was the most loving and genuine person Ashley had ever known and he always got along with the people around them. Also, he was definitely an “all or nothing” type of guy and when he fell for a girl, he fell deeply AND blindly – both a blessing and a curse. However, when he would meet Pam, that’s when things would take a turn for the worse and his blessing of being choosy and committed would be the greatest curse of all.

She Looked Like An Angel, Talked Like An Angel, Walked Like An Angel, But…

Ashley met Pam when she was her 11, her brother was 19 and Pam was 17. Pam came across as a “good girl.” She was kind, warm, an honor student and absolutely beautiful.

The first year of Pam and Darren’s relationship seemed amazing. Pam and Ashley grew close and Ashley came to see Pam as an older sister. Everything seemed perfect, but halfway through their second year of dating, the family noticed things weren’t quite… right about Pam.

If someone was having a conversation with Darren that didn’t directly involve her, she would immediately insert herself into the conversation. She sat closer to Darren, laughed a little louder, or sometimes even called him away. The family tried to laugh it off, thinking it was just the curse of “first love” for Pam.

However, the first major sign that things weren’t quite right with Darren and Pam happened one night when Darren came home from a party. Ashley noticed that Darren had a large welt on his cheek.

“What happened to you?” Ashley asked.

“I got in a fight. It’s cool.” Darren replied.

It was definitely NOT cool, though. Darren NEVER got into fights. Ashley pressed him on what happened and he eventually explained he got in a fight over Pam. The night of that party, Pam had apparently told Darren a random guy had attempted to assault her. Being the protective boyfriend he was, Darren confronted the guy who denied everything and said he didn’t even know who he was talking about. Of course, a fight ensued, but the weird part is afterward, Pam denied even making the claim in the first place on the car ride home.

The following day, Darren told Ashley how there just wasn’t something right about Pam. She liked to “start things.” This ultimately led to Darren wanting to end things with her. It should’ve been the end, but Pam wasn’t ready to let go just yet.

She Was The Devil In Disguise

After the breakup, Pam reached out to Ashley to see if she maybe wanted to go shopping with her. Ashley didn’t seem the harm in doing so since they always had a great relationship.

The outing started off nice and Pam told Ashley about how she’d been doing since Darren had broken things off several weeks before. Nothing too out of the ordinary. That is until Pam started to bring up some… interesting topics.

Pam started going on about how she had a traumatic childhood experience where she was abused and violated. She then aggressively defended herself by saying, “Whatever your brother told you was a lie. He was the one telling lies. That’s why I had to break-up with HIM.”

Feeling extremely uncomfortable, Ashley tried to be nice and understanding. Yet what Ashley didn’t realize is that she’d just opened the floodgates to 50 shades of crazy.

The Late Night Calls

Over the next several years, Pam refused to let go of Darren and Ashley’s family. She called Ashley incessantly and one night at 1:30 am. Ashley answered to Pam saying in a cold, monotone voice, “Tell your brother I’m going to slit my freaking throat tonight,” and she immediately hung up. Ashley felt numb and immediately told her brother who of course when to check on Pam, and it seemed her plan worked, as the pair were back together the following week.

Yet Pam proved she hadn’t changed a bit. Ashley came home one day and her family staged what seemed like an intervention. Pam had lied to Ashley’s family and told them ASHLEY was the one threatening suicide, not her. Ashley had to show her family the text messages and voicemails Pam left on her phone to help them understand Pam hadn’t changed at all! Darren knew he had to break things off for good this time, but that didn’t mean Pam was ready for things to end.

It’s Finally Over…?

Following the second breakup, Pam continued to hover over Ashley and her family like a dark cloud.

One night she even showed up to their doorstep, wearing nothing but a ruined dress. She wore no shoes and had a baseball bat in hand. She paced on the front lawn, laughing, screaming, and crying. She swung the bat every now and then and stumbled around. What she planned to do with it, the family didn’t want to know, and they sure as heck didn’t want to find out. They stayed in the house as they watched Pam unravel outside. She eventually left, but she was far from finished.

Continuous calls and texts that ranged from apologetic and sincere to distraught and crazy plagued the family on a daily basis. The only thing the family thought to do was change their numbers and block her from every social media platform. They hoped that would be enough, but sadly it wasn’t. She’d found a way to get to Darren’s new number and made odd requests like to have him return the batch of cookies she brought one year to a 4th of July party. But soon she started to sound psychotic and threatening again, “Stop FREAKING playing with me… You’re gonna get it.”

Just as the family was really starting to get worried, Pam disappeared. She and her family moved to the East Coast so she could receive treatment for her addiction and substance abuse problems. She was gone until Ashley was in the 11th grade, then she returned.

The Strange Car

For a while, life was normal again. Darren had started his new career and started dating a new girl. However, everything changed when Ashley started to notice a weird car.

The first time Ashley noticed it, it seemed pretty ordinary. It was when she started noticing the car EVERYWHERE that she grew suspicious. She took note but tried not to let it bother her, until one day she noticed the car had actually PARKED in her neighborhood. When Ashley pointed it out to Darren, he also confessed he’d started noticing the car everywhere too. Ashley was on high alert now.

She’s Baaaaack

On the closing night of the school play Ashley was involved in, she went out to the lobby to meet her family. However, she noticed something was off as she hugged her parents and her brother. Her brother was visibly upset and her parents were trying to make very random conversation — what they usually did to avoid something. Ashley cut to the chase and asked them why they all seemed so nervous. That’s when her family told her what she’d feared: Pam was there.

The color ran out of her face and she wasn’t sure how to respond. Darren reassured her that everything was going to be okay, but boy was that far from the truth.

As the on-edge family left the school they could feel a presence looming overheard. It was Pam. She was parked a few cars down from theirs. The family quickly tried to get to their car without giving her a second look, but they couldn’t escape her glance. They heard her call out to them, “Hey, wait a minute.” Darren threatened her to stop what she was doing. He walked over to talk to her as the rest of the family quickly made their way to the car.

Pam was yelling at Darren and he had enough, so he finally walked away from her. Pam smiled a sinister, artificial smile and shouted a goodbye, then stomped off to her own car. Ashley waited in the car nervously and watched as Pam peeled out of the parking lot in the same strange car she’d noticed that gave her the chills.

As they drove back home, her father immediately noticed Pam’s strange car following closely behind them. It took several twists and turns for them to lose her. Ashley came to the sad realization that for the past month, maybe even more, Pam had been stalking her and her brother.

An Adorable Addition To The Family

The days following the closing night and car chase incident waned on the family. Darren was trying to move on with a fiancée, Kara, with prospects of a new dog. Ashley noticed how down he was and how often he visited, and she couldn’t help but want to take away all the pain from her brother. One night he confessed that when he first met Pam, she came off as a “snobby” sociopath. Their relationship was filled with ups and downs and soon, her insecurities became too much for him. Darren only wished he had listened to his friends’ warnings now.

A few weeks later, Darren finally adopted an adorable 2-month-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever who had one gold eye and one green eye. He decided to name him Ike. Pam hadn’t darkened the doorstep for a while — the last Ashley had received any Pam-like behavior was one night she noticed what seemed like a bright, white flash from a phone outside her bedroom window. Needless to say, she never opened her window again — and Darren’s fiancée Kara was the breath of fresh air the family needed. Things seemed peaceful until one day Kara told the family Ike had escaped from the yard.

They all frantically searched the neighborhood and the creek behind Darren’s house, but they still couldn’t find the little guy. However, when they returned home, they saw none other than the adorable pup himself. He was unharmed and wagged his little tail, looking happy and healthy. Ashley and Kara figured maybe he’d just shimmied through a small gap in the gate on the side yard, but Ashley noticed how there wasn’t any torn up grass from wriggling out. At this point, though, as with any mystery in Ashley’s life, she should’ve guessed Pam had something to do with it.

Where Is Ike?!

Only a few weeks passed before Ike went missing once again. Darren and Kara had gone away on a weekend trip with some friends, so it was up to Ashley to take care of the little pup. Everything started off fine and Ike even got along with their old lab, Dez. However, the second night Ike stayed with Ashley and her parents, Ashley was out with friends and her dad let both dogs into the yard around 8 pm. Ashley’s dad went back inside to watch TV. He could hear Dez barking but figured he’d found a rabbit and yelled for him to be quiet. However, when only Dez came to the door, Ashley’s dad felt a sudden feeling of dread. He called for Ike again and again, but he never came. He checked the rest of the yard, but there was still no sign of Ike.

Once Ashley got home, they continued searching the front and side yards. Ashley told them how he’d escaped before, so maybe that’s what had happened again. Her parents drove around the neighborhood calling for him, but no luck. Ashley stayed home, hoping Ike would return like he did last time, but he never did. Once her brother returned, he was absolutely heartbroken and the entire family started posting fliers around the neighborhood. Weeks passed and they still heard nothing.

One mid-February day, Ashley’s dad was doing some yard work when he noticed something strange in the yard. It was a collar. Not just any collar, though, it was Ike’s collar. But it wasn’t even the one he wore the night he went missing – it was a collar he wore as a puppy and it was the same collar he’d worn the FIRST day he got out of the yard. To make sure it was the same one, Ashley called Kara to see if they’d ever found that collar. They didn’t.

The dots started to connect in Ashley’s brain and she told her family her theory: Ike wasn’t missing; he was stolen, and who else would steal something so precious to her brother than none other than freaking Pam. Enough was enough.

The Final Discovery

The family went to the police to file a report. Along with Ike being missing, Ashley gave the police a statement about how she was sure it was Pam who was outside her window one night taking pictures of her. Of course, the police still couldn’t do anything as there wasn’t any solid proof and the family continued to have sleepless nights, wondering what could’ve happened to Ike.

Next came a miracle. A few weeks later, Kara went with her mother to a small town 45 minutes away. However, as Kara and her mom window shopped in the town, Kara noticed a car with a cute puppy in it that looked eerily similar to Ike. As Kara approached the car she could tell by his eyes, the markings on his chest, and how the pup cried as she got closer that this was the puppy they’d all been searching for. She immediately called the cops and they arrived on the scene quickly. Kara expected to have a harsh encounter with Pam, but it was actually another girl who’d come back to the car looking just as confused as Kara.

The girl talked about how she’d just answered an ad from a “super shady” girl online and how Ike had been very skinny when she’d first gotten him. The girl confessed how she got bad vibes from the girl. This “super shady” girl was selling the dog so cheap because she “didn’t want the stupid dog, it was a present from her boyfriend, but it was the wrong kind.” The girl who had adopted Ike let the police know that the “shady girl” lived in an apartment complex a few minutes from where they were, but she didn’t know the apartment number. The police investigated the apartment complex and soon the real case against Pam would begin.

Caught Red-Handed And Sent To Trial

It turned out Ike didn’t have an easy road to adoption. As the police investigated the complex, they found out that Pam lived with two roommates. When they interviewed them, they couldn’t believe what they found. The roommates told police how Pam was often gone but didn’t seem to have a job. Pam’s mom would be the one to come down and check on her, and she’d leave rent money behind soon after. The few times the roommates did speak to Pam, she always talked about her past relationship. The tone always switched between how much she loved Darren and his family to how they all deserved to die.

This gave police enough information to search her room and what they found looked like something out of a horror film. Pam had YEARS worth of photos of the entire family, including Ike and photos of everyone sleeping. She also took pictures from their social media accounts and sometimes even photoshopped herself into a few of them. When police went through her search history, they found everything from abuse-fantasy smut and other violent adult films to searches about various weapons. The creepy photos and terrifying search history were finally enough that police could arrest Pam and the case would go to court.

Police also found remnants of a make-shift dog-pen in Pam’s closet. The poor little guy was shut away for weeks with nothing but an old towel to sleep on and tiny bowls with just enough food and water to keep him alive. It would take a while to get the pup’s muscles and fat back to a normal state.

The discovery of Pam’s lair was both a relief and a terror for Ashley and her family. They’d finally caught her brother’s psychotic ex-girlfriend red-handed, but now they’d have to face her again in a courtroom, along with Pam’s roommates, the girl who bought Ike from her and even Pam’s own mother. What comes next in Ashley and Darren’s future will be decided in court. The one thing Ashley knows is that her family has become stronger thanks to Pam and they’re ready to take her down.
