You may remember Kyemah McEntyre for her viral homemade prom dress, created to pay homage to her African heritage. This gorgeous gown “broke the Internet” and was even spotted by former supermodel and talk show host Tyra Banks on Instagram. Banks was so “blown away” by the gown and Kyemah’s spirit that she invited the 18-year-old on her talk show, FABLife.
McEntyre believed she had been invited onto the show to hand deliver the Nkrumah’s pencil print dress she had made for Banks. However, Banks turned the tables on McEntyre when she personally appeared on the show wearing the dress and rocking beautiful afro to match. Banks did not stop there. she immediately began showering Kyemah with compliments, telling the teen, “I am such a fan of you. I saw you on the Internet and you blew me away with your talent, with your beauty… this is the beginning of your journey and becoming the force that I know that you can be in the fashion world. This is not existing in the fashion world right now, and it is desperately, desperately needed.”
We agree that McEntyre’s talents are a desperately needed addition to the fashion world and have no doubt that her design career will take off.
