Cutoffs are super easy to make, but also just as easy to mess up if you don’t know the trick. Thankfully, we’re here to share that trick with you. The trick: it’s all about mastering the crotch move (read: find the X).
Most people cut straight across. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT cut straight across. Rather, start by turning the jeans inside out. Next, starting about two inches below the crotch, cut perpendicular to the leg from the inside to the outside. Tip: use a pair of dull scissors for a better fray.

Finish up your beachy cutoffs by flipping the shorts outside in to their original position, and tossing into the washer and dryer. Now they are ready to be worn and shown off. Tip: imitate this look by folding up the leg a half inch for a stylish flare.
