Beards have definitely become a statement piece for many men. Whether long and full or subtle scruff, it seems more men are sporting facial hair. With this growing trend, there have been numerous studies performed to figure out the types of men who choose to sport beards.
One recent study surveyed 500 men ages between 18 and 72 from India and the United States. The group of men were asked to pick which of nine facial hair styles best fit their own and then were asked a series of questions about gender roles in which they had to agree or disagree.
The results of this survey may (or may not) surprise you. The study found a link between between beards and gender role beliefs. It found that the 85 percent of the Indian men and 65 percent of the American men who had facial hair agreed more with sexist comments than men without any facial hair. Although the study found a link between beards and gender role beliefs, the study didn’t find what causes this association. One thought the study had was that maybe men with negative views towards women are more likely to sport a beard to show their masculinity.
Another piece of research surveyed 2,000 men and found 47 percent of men with beards cheated on their partners as opposed to 20 percent of men with no facial hair. It also found that men with facial hair are 45 percent more likely to get into fights and 40 percent admitted to have stolen something. On the other hand, 29 percent of men without facial hair have gotten into a fight and 17 percent admitted to stealing.
While we’re not sure the truth behind this study, it has made some interesting observations. What do you think about this study? Are the bearded guys in your lives bad boys?
