From man buns to man braids, men seem to be dabbling in the world of grooming and putting a little more effort into their style. Men are now even starting to paint their nails. But this new statement isn’t just another fashion trend like man buns. Men are taking to painting their nails for a very important reason, to spark conversation. As you probably know, girls have long been posting “nailfies” and getting nail-spiration from Instagram and a new campaign is asking guys to do the same thing!
A Nonprofit organization called YGAP recently created a campaign called Polished Man to raise awareness of child abuse. The campaign is asking guys to post pictures of their painted nails to show their support. CEO Elliot Costello got his inspiration for Polished Man from a girl he met at a human rights organization in Cambodia. While talking to this girl and getting his nails painted by her, it just clicked.
By painting one fingernail a bright color, Costello hopes it can start a conversation between men. The bright painted nail is easy to recognize and can be a talking point for men about an issue such as child abuse. Child abuse happens to 1 in 5 children before the age of 18. 90 percent of the abuse, whether verbal or physical, is done by a man. By making the issue known to men and giving them a way to show their support, there is hope to create a community of male role models for children to look up to.

Spark the conversation about child abuse with your own friends.

It doesn’t matter what nail you show your support with.

Even stars are showing their support and taking their own “nailfies.”
Let’s see yours! The campaign runs through October, so don’t forget to tell the men in your life to post their very own “nailfie” in support of Polished Man!
