In the entirety of the 832 page September issue of Vogue, only two pages featured plus-size models. This limited media representation is actually horrifying since 67% of women currently fall in the range of size 14-24, which is what the fashion industry considers to be “plus-size.” What were these two pages? The pages were a stunning sneak preview of Lane Bryant’s #PlusIsEqual campaign. Rearing the slogan “Let’s represent”, the campaign features top models Candice Huffine, Sabina Karlsson, Precious Victoria Lee, Ashley Graham, Georgia Pratt, and Justine Legault clad in Lane Bryant’s Fall 2015 collection. These models seek to represent all women who, as Huffine describes, are “proud, strong, fashion forward, stylish … same as anyone else, with extra curves.” Lane Bryant envisions a world in which size doesn’t matter and labels such as “plus-sized” don’t exist. After all, it doesn’t make sense that size would even be a factor for any woman who just wants to shop and be stylish.
We think Lane Bryant’s campaign is brilliant and the images are simply gorgeous. Let us know what you think in the comments!
