More and more women are beginning to embrace their naturally curly and wavy hair. So it’s about time the tech world does too. Most iPhone users who have downloaded the most recent software update have noticed the new emojis. Okay, most people got the new software update solely for the the new emojis. But while there is a taco, a unicorn, and even a middle finger, the only women’s hairstyle portrayed is straight hair. Um hello? What about the 45% of women who have curly and wavy hair?
Dove is taking matters into its own hands with the Love Your Curls campaign. They want curly-haired women to stop taming their mane and start embracing it! A part of this mission is to make sure all types of hair are represented in the technological world so they have graced us with curly-haired emojis. Sali Tagliamonte, the Dove Language Expert, explains, “The Diversity of emojis need to reflect the diversity of our population today, where one in three women in the U.S. have curly hair.”
