How Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Ended Up Together

It took over a decade for Kim and Kanye to finally end up together. And their love story is definitely one for the books!

Kim and Kanye are one of the most notable celebrity power couples in Hollywood.

But how exactly did the two start their romance, turned marriage and family?

How Kim And Kanye Met

In the Kardashian 10th year anniversary show, Kim revealed just how she and Kanye West met.

Kanye was collaborating on a song called ‘Talk About Our Love,’ with singer Brandy, in 2002. Brandy and Kim were good friends at the time, so Kim tagged along and ended up meeting Kanye there. Meanwhile, Kanye was fascinated by Kim and would ask his friends who Kim was.

Kim said she can vividly remember meeting Kanye.

“When I first met him, we worked on a project together and there was definitely a spark, but we were in other relationships and we kept our distance.”

Kim’s Previous Marriage To Kris Humphries

When Kim was about to get married to the NBA star, Kris Humphries, Kanye decided that it would be best to tune back into the technology world. Kanye had gone without a phone for years, but in 2011, upon hearing the news that Kim was going to wed Kris, Kanye knew he had to get a phone to stay in contact with her.

Kanye admits to sending Kim photos of “basketball players that used to be cool, but wear their pants up high now.” He did that to let her know what she was in for by marrying a basketball player.

Kim met Kris in November of 2010, while she was filming her ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York’ show. In February 2011, Kim and Kris went public with their relationship and were seen out and about on dates. Four months after the world knew about their relationship, Kris proposed to Kim in her Beverly Hills home, with rose petals that were written out to say, “Will You Marry Me?”

After their 90-day engagement, on August 20th, 2011, Kim and Kris got married. The couple made a huge event while filming a special episode on the big day called “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.” The episode aired in early October 2011 and the ratings for the 2-part episode were naturally through the roof.

Alas, the marriage wasn’t meant to last. After having her ‘fairytale wedding,’ Kim filed for divorce from Kris Humphries after only 72 days of being husband and wife, on October 31, 2011. Kim cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the legal split from the basketball player.

But it took quite a while for the divorce to be finalized. Kris Humphries apparently stalled the proceedings by filing for an annulment and lashing out at Kim, saying that their marriage was based on ‘fraud’. He also said that he felt like their marriage was used in order for the Kardashians to boost their reality TV show ratings.

Finally, in early June of 2013, the couple was officially divorced.

Kanye’s Past Love Life

Kanye started dating model, Amber Rose in 2008.

Kanye had seen Amber in Ludacris’s music video for ‘What Them Girls Like’ and called her up. He wanted her to fly to Los Angeles to shoot a music video that was never released. From there, they started their relationship.

However, the two split up in 2010 and Amber Rose accused Kanye of cheating on her with Kim Kardashian.

Kanye Always Had Kim On His Mind

According to Kanye, he says he’s loved her since day one and had to work for it, in order to get her. “I knew that I wanted a family, with her.”

Before Kim’s marriage to Kris Humphries, Kanye still kept in touch with Kim. However, Kim and Kris’s marriage ended in 2011, leaving Kim sad and at a low.

Kim revealed to Access Hollywood, that she thought Kanye would’ve reached out to Kim, after hearing the news that she was single again. Apparently, he waited a bit to get in touch.

The Paris Trip That Started It All

Six months later after her separating from Kris Humphries, Kim was the one to reach out to Kanye, saying “Hello? I thought you were at least going to call me and say ‘I told you so!'”

After that phone call, Kanye told Kim to come to Paris to see his fashion show and she did.

Kim told Access Hollywood that she knew that Kanye was the one, saying, “From the moment I landed (in Paris) and was there, I fell madly in love with him. I thought, ‘Why didn’t I do this sooner?'” She realized just how fulfilling her life could be with a man who not only loved her but supported her and had fun with her.

Official Relationship Status

The couple started officially dating as boyfriend and girlfriend, in April of 2012.

In an interview with Oprah in 2012, Kim shared about how she and Kanye could relate to one another regarding losing a parent. Kim’s father Robert Kardashian passed away in 2003, 8 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Kanye’s mother passed away in 2007, due to complications with plastic surgery.

Kim revealed, “We’ve always had an attraction for each other.”

Their First Child – North

Kim and Kanye became parents in the Summer of 2013.

The couple welcomed their baby girl, North, into the world (5 weeks early) on June 15th, 2013.

Kim admitted in the 10th Anniversary special, that she kept her pregnancy a secret early on, due to complications. At one point, she was in so much pain and thought that she had suffered a miscarriage. So she flew home on Thanksgiving Day to check it out with her doctor. At first, the doctor told her that there was not a heartbeat and she might have suffered a miscarriage. But miracles happen, the following morning, the doctor did discover a heartbeat, confirming the news that Kim was still pregnant.

The birth of North was documented on E! cameras for an episode of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’.

The Engagement

On October 21st, 2013, the day of Kim’s 33rd birthday, Kanye flew into town to see her. Kim had no clue that her birthday would be the day she would become a fiancee. While Kim was feeling a little under the weather, Kanye had to convince her to get on a plane to go to San Francisco.

Little did Kim know, Kanye had been planning an incredible proposal that would happen at the San Francisco Giants’ baseball stadium. Friends and family hid in the baseball dugouts, while a 50- piece orchestra played in the background.

Kanye said to Kim: “I just want to know…” to which Kim replied: “You want to know what?” Kanye: “If you’ll marry me.”

And obviously, Kim said, “Of course!”

While Kanye is not one to always be apart of the Kardashian reality shows, he did decide to let the cameras in on their special engagement. “When we got engaged, I made sure that the show was there. I felt like that’s something that would make her happy. This is a moment that she would like to share.”

Wedding Day Celebration

Kanye and Kim got married in Florence, Italy at the Fort di Belvedere on May 24th, 2014. (Florence was also the city where they conceived their daughter North).

While the engagement episode aired on E!, Kim decided to not let the show film her big day. She wanted the ceremony to be more private but allowed cameras in on the days leading up to her wedding.

Their Second Child – Saint

Kim and Kanye expanded their family, by having a little boy.

Kim gave birth to their second child, Saint, on December 5, 2015.

However, in Saint’s first year of life, Kim didn’t oversaturate her social media with photos of him. She waited a little over 2 months, just like North, to formally announce his name to the world.

Kim also mentioned the relationship of her two children, in an interview with Ellen. “Saint is such a good boy, but North just beats him up all day long,” she told Ellen with a smile.**According to Kim, North is a seriously jealous older sister, when it comes to the attention surrounding Saint.

A Third Child On The Way

In early September of 2017, it was announced that the couple would have a third baby. But this time, Kim opted for a surrogate.

People reported that “Given her health scares in the past, Kim felt the need to hire a surrogacy agency that helped serve as the liaison in finding a healthy woman who would be a great surrogate option for her and Kanye. Both of them have been super involved in the process.”

The baby is expected to be due in January of 2018.
