Imagine Your Child Gets Stolen

Imagine your child gets stolen by a manic old woman. What would you do? How would you react? If you’re anything like poor Miles, you would stop at literally nothing to get your son back. Unfortunately, this woman has an elaborate scheme in mind that Miles had to work around. It wasn’t enough to just grab his son back. He had to out-think this bizarre thief, who tried to use her own prejudice against him. Miles’s son just wanted to visit the grocery store with his dad. He didn’t realize that emotional trauma was on the grocery list too!

Vicious Grocery Store

The mission: Running several errands and getting some groceries for Gwen. The most capable agents? Miles and his precious four-year-old son, Peter. They both certainly accepted it, and it gave Gwen a chance to catch up on some much-needed sleep! She worked too much as it was, so it was really the least Miles could do. Besides, four-year-olds make for excellent travel companions, when they aren’t crying.
Now is the part of the story where I mention some very important context. Miles is a mixed-race person. As he puts it, ‘I’ve been confused for many races over the course of my twenty-nine years on this planet, but I’m literally Caucasian and African-American. I’m originally from Texas and am usually confused for being Mexican. But now I live in Massachusetts and I’ve never had an issue with anyone concerning my race, until today.”
Gwen is also white, and she had little Peter before she met Miles. Because Peter’s (also white) biological father isn’t in the picture much, Miles really stepped up to become a young father and support Peter. All of these details are important because they’ll be the basis for a volcano of nonsense and stupidity that’s about to erupt. Miles and Peter were quite inseparable, but a wicked monster would soon enter the picture to make sure this father and son were no more. Who knew that grocery stores were so vicious?!

Introducing The Wicked Eleanor

The errands were a success, so Miles and Peter headed to the grocery store next. Now for a four-year-old, a grocery store is just about the most magical place to explore, at least until they visit literally anywhere else. Peter ran ahead of Miles, laughing and speaking to everyone that he came across. As long as the kid didn’t turn feral and attack anyone, Miles was totally cool with everything. While Miles was hunting for the canned vegetables, Peter jogged over to an elderly woman on the other side of the aisle. Peter, being the sweet and social butterfly that he is, approached the woman and exclaimed, “Hi! Me four and me Peter!”
The elderly woman, who we’ll call Eleanor, looked down at the boy and exclaimed, “Well bless your heart! You shouldn’t be running around unattended! Let’s go find your parents.”
Miles looked over and found his boy. He called over to Peter, who excitedly ran back and started to spin in circles, because he was a four-year-old after all. Miles turns around, having picked out the food he needed. Unfortunately, Eleanor now blocked his path, a vengeful glare in her eye.

Fear In His Eyes

Miles tried to be polite and move the other way, but Eleanor moved her cart in front of the man. Miles recalled how, “I honestly thought she was just getting confused, so I excused myself again and tried one more time to go around. She just blocked my path.”
Turns out that Eleanor was on the attack now. Eleanor exclaimed, “Oh, I don’t think so! You’re not going anywhere with that child!”
Miles replied, “You mean my son?!”
Eleanor shrieked back at him, “That’s not your child! He’s white! And you’re Mexican! You probably didn’t even know his name before he said it to me!”
Miles could already feel a massive headache coming on from this lady. He simply stated, “Whatever lady, can you just move? My wife is at home and is anxiously awaiting us.”
But Eleanor certainly wasn’t one to back down from a fight, especially when she believed she was completely right. She loudly screamed, “Stop your LIES! You’re not taking him anywhere you pervert!”
During this vicious exchange, Peter had been holding onto his dad’s leg. You could clearly see the fear in this child’s eyes. Miles wasn’t running on much sleep, and he was getting pretty frustrated with this woman. Unfortunately for him, things were about to get a whole lot worse.

Everything Gets So Much Worse

Miles exclaimed, “As you can see, he’s standing close to me because he trusts me, and you’re scaring him! How about you buzz off?!”
Eleanor stared at poor little Peter as she replied, “NO! He’s scared because of you! He just doesn’t know how to express it yet! Come on now sweetie, I’m here to rescue you. Come with me.”
Good grief, was this random woman trying to kidnap Miles’s son? It seemed like it! Thankfully, little Peter was old enough to communicate that he wouldn’t be leaving with her. Unfortunately, Eleanor didn’t actually care what the child said. She grabbed the poor boy and began to run away. Miles was completely shocked, it was life his life went from ordinary to apocalyptic in only a couple minutes. Peter started to scream loudly, and wouldn’t you if you were in Peter’s shoes? That was all it took for Miles to snap back into reality and chase after this deranged woman. Eleanor and Miles ran throughout the store. Miles shouted for people to stop her, but everyone seemed caught off guard by the sudden activity. Just when all hope seemed to be lost, an employee made the woman stop before she could reach the exit. Eleanor exclaimed to the employee, “Why are you stopping me?! This Mexican here is trying to kidnap my grandson!”
I can only imagine what this poor, hapless employee was thinking. Here was this manic old woman, desperately trying to hold onto a screaming child, while a terrified dude ran up behind them. Miles will never forget how, “My son literally is balling his eyes out and extending his arms, calling out for me. This lady was relentless, and she would not let go, even after he slaps her face multiple times. I laughed a little, not gonna lie.”
Peter certainly knew just what to do in this sort of worst-case scenario. Fortunately, a manager had overheard all the screaming and walked over to see what was going on. Unfortunately, Eleanor got the first hateful word in. It was now that she would sink to an even more despicable low.

Who Would He Believe?

Eleanor shoved a vicious talon in Miles’s face and declared, “This pervert is trying to kidnap my grandson, and I was just trying to escape!”
Miles, slightly out of breath from all the running, stated, “That’s my son, you flipping psycho! Now let him go!”
The manager was at a loss for words. Who would he believe more? Before he had to think too long, Miles whipped out his phone and showed pictures of him and Peter, which dated back to a year or so. Eleanor screeched that those photos were clearly faked. Literally how? Why would Miles go to such bizarre lengths?! Unfortunately, two other gossiping ladies stood nearby the entire kerfuffle, stepping up to vouch for this insane woman. Apparently, there could be no possible way that Miles and Peter were related because of their different skin tones. Had these ladies never heard of step-parents?! One of the gossiping ladies pulled out her phone to call the police. Great. While all of that was going on, Miles took it upon himself to call his wife and wake her up. As soon as he summarized what was going on, she panicked and quickly drove over to the store.
Gwen arrived at the ominous grocery store right around the same time as the cops. Miles noted how, “As soon as she walked in, my son goes, ‘Mama, help!’ My wife is a true mama bear, and she immediately flew into a rage when she saw this lady holding my son.”
Would Gwen be the secret weapon to saving little Peter from this elderly, deranged maniac?!

Wife Saves The Day!

“Gwen, with fire in her eyes, exclaimed, “LET HIM GO, NOW!”
Eleanor replied, “Sorry sweetie, I was just trying to protect him from this pervert over here!”
At this point, one of the gossiping ladies exclaimed, “Yeah, we saw him trying to kidnap the kid, but this lady saved him!”
Uh-oh. The first crack in Eleanor’s story had formed. The confused police officer turned to Eleanor and asked, “I thought this was your grandson?”
Before Eleanor could respond, Gwen jumped in to exclaim that she had literally no idea who this old woman was. Eleanor confessed, “Okay, so he’s not my grandson! But I was only trying to protect him from that dirty man!”
The other gossiping lady stated, “He snatched that child and tried to run away, but this lady stopped it! This boy’s mom should be thankful this lady was here to save him, because this poor kid was clearly running loose without an adult!”
Gwen interjected, “Wait, who are you talking about again?”
All three of these crazy women pointed to Miles. Gwen nearly laughed and exclaimed, “Oh, you mean my husband?! Who do you think called me and got me over here so fast?!”
Miles and Gwen happily showed their IDs to the officer and manager, as well as identical photos on each of their phones. The cop nodded in approval and jotted down some notes. The three ladies kept shouting about how this was all clearly fake, and that Gwen was somehow in on this apparent kidnapping scheme. Gwen absolutely lost it and let out a stream of colorful words that hopefully Peter would never repeat. Everything seemed to be working out for the weary couple, except for one final piece of evidence that could make or break this poor family.

Gone But Not Forgotten

The police officer turned to the grocery store manager and asked to review the security camera footage. The three women’s faces went as pale as a ghost. This would surely implicate them in this horrible crime. The officer saw the footage of how Miles pulled into the parking lot, take little Peter out of his car seat, and walk up and down the aisles until Eleanor literally snatched up his son. When the officer finished watching the tapes, he walked back over to the anxious crowd of participants. Eleanor tried to shout, but the officer commanded that she sit back down. He turned to Miles and asked if he wanted to press charges. It was an emphatic yes from Miles.
Eleanor was promptly charged with attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, providing a false police report, and child endangerment. Apparently, she had some family connections to the local police force, so she was plotting to quietly drag out the case for as long as possible, in the hopes that she would get an easier punishment. Fortunately, the court date would be scheduled in the next month, so there wasn’t very much that Eleanor could do at all. Those other two gossiping women were charged with filing false reports. Unfortunately for poor Peter, he bruised easily, and Eleanor had left some terrible spots on him from where she grabbed him. Fortunately, he was fine, if a little shaken up. Naturally, Eleanor was also charged with child abuse! Serves her right for such a nasty assumption!
