There's no betrayal that hurts worse than getting cheated on. Cheating on people is inexcusable, yet people make up all kinds of excuses for why they do it. Just be honest, people! It's not that hard! These Redditors expose their cheating ex-lovers and the terrible excuses the they used to try to justify their crimes. Content is edited for clarity.
Fortune Tellers Don’t Always Give The Best Advice
“My buddy’s dad was diagnosed with Colon cancer. He starts going to chemo and his wife starts going out with some other guy.
His sister found out his mom was cheating on his dad, so she told my buddy and he sat his dad down and talked to him.
Dad confronts cheating mom and she says (paraphrasing), ‘my fortune teller told me that the best way to get over your death would be to start something new with someone else.’
Now mind you, his dad’s not dead, or really even close. The cancer is responding well to chemo, and he’s been slowly getting better.
She literally tried justifying cheating on him because he might die…
She no longer lives in the house, and she, best to my knowledge, has been ex-communicated from the family.”
Stress Makes You Do Crazy Things
“My ex-wife and I had been together since before university. We stayed together through university (different uni’s, same city), then got engaged and married after uni. When I got my first actual big job after my graduation job a couple of years later we had to move across the country. She had been excited about the move. She found a new job and got really involved in choosing the apartment we were going to rent while we got set up and planned kitchen items she’d buy with my extra pay. It all seemed good and she genuinely seemed pretty excited for it.
About two weeks before the main move (I was already working there and commuting back and forth), I find out she’s cheated, that she’s cheated in the past, and then that she cheated a year or more ago.
Her excuse: stress. Worried about moving to a new city? Bone a guy. Worried about your new job? Bone a guy. Worried about exams? Bone a guy.
She genuinely tried to make me feel sorry for her that she got so stressed that she had no option but to go and sleep with other people. I agreed with her that if that were true, she had real problems and needed help, but I disagreed that it was going to be my problem anymore.
It was a long time ago now, but a real eye-opener about other people. I can’t be too angry though as we got married too young and the years that followed my divorce were some of the best of my life. Plus if it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have met my wife or have the family I have now, so all for the best in the end.”
He Needed A “Friend”
“My boyfriend and I were hanging out at our apartment and some girl came over. He’d met her on craigslist while looking for a friend. A bit weird, but okay. I talked to her a bit, then went to bed. I THOUGHT I heard her leave not long after that.
At 4:20 AM, the cats came in whining about something and woke me up. I figured, what the heck, I’m kinda thirsty, so I got up and went to the kitchen to get some water.
They were in the front room kissing. In disbelief and shock (we’d been together nearly 5 years!), I made a racket getting a drink of water. They quickly separated and pretended they’d been talking.
I went back to the bedroom, and waited a few minutes. ‘Should I confront him,’ I thought, ‘How?’
A few minutes passed, and she didn’t leave. So I confronted him.
‘It’s 4: in the morning,’ I said.
‘Oh, she doesn’t have a car and the busses aren’t running.’
‘So you can drive her home then.’
‘I’m to wasted to drive. See? Are my eyes shut? Everything is fuzzy. I just can’t tell.’ And he sat there, looking at me with his eyes wide open.
‘It sure didn’t look fuzzy to me when I saw you kissing her,’ I said.
I wanted to scream at him, but his kid from an ex was visiting and was sleeping on the couch.
‘She’ll go home when the buses run again,’ he said.
I went to the bedroom and cried for a bit. Then, I called my mother and told her I was moving back home. After a while, he came back in and asked if he could sleep in the bed, since it was either that or out front with the trashy craigslist girl, I said yes. I moved my stuff into my car while he was sleeping. When he woke up, he asked if I was leaving.
‘Take her home and we’ll talk about it,’ I said.
‘If you’re leaving, why haven’t you packed up your stuff?’
‘I have! But I can’t get to the Xbox when SHE’S sleeping in front of it!’
‘So I’ll move her to the bed.’
‘EXCUSE ME?’
‘You’re leaving… so why should she?’
Then I had to spend several hours in her company, while being civil because his kid woke up, and move out while she was there.
What was worse was the whole time I was moving out he was so paranoid that I would take something that was his.
‘Are those my pills?’
‘No! They’re mine!’
‘Hold on! What game is that?’
‘It’s the game I PAID FOR.’
‘But you bought it for me!’
‘I did not! I bought it and you started playing it!’
This was only a month or so ago, but I’m still in the process of getting my name off the lease.”
They Are Never, Ever, Ever Getting Back Together
“My girlfriend of four years cheated on me. She had a history of depression and self harm and generally just a horribly depressing person to be around now that I think about it.
First time I found a used rubber in our trashcan. She said, ‘I used that on a banana.’
‘Wow that banana must have a big load,’ I said as I checked out the inside.
She started cutting herself and taking pills after I dumped her. I eventually took her back, which was a big mistake. I had to call the police on her on this occasion because she sent me pics of her bloody wrist.
The second time she cheated, one of her friends messaged me on Facebook and said, ‘Yo dude I had no idea you two were dating…I’m so sorry, but we hooked up when you were away for work. I just wanted to let you know.’
I confronted her and she denied adamantly. I dumped her and drove home. She texted me four minutes later saying, ‘I’m so sorry for doing this.’
I turned around and arrived back thinking she was gonna off herself. She took a ‘bunch of sleeping pills.’ I took her to the hospital and she refused to get out of the car. The cop at the emergency room forced her out of the car. I was so confused about what was going on. I ended up staying because there was no definitive proof.
Fast forward 6 months: the last time she lied about being assaulted, to which I laughed hysterically at her and left her while she was crying. That was about 3 months ago.
This last time, it all happened while on vacation in Europe, living at her parents house. Let me tell you how much of a circus show this was. She goes out with ‘friends’ and drops me off downtown in a country where I don’t speak the language. She tells me she’s gonna pick me up at 2:00 AM. 4:00 AM rolls around and she no shows, so I get a taxi home obliterated on about 10 Guinness’s. Next day, I find used Plan B in her purse. I confronted her and she lied about it 3 times.
‘I bought that for us; I bought that for a friend; I was assaulted.’
She refused to report it and refused to get tested for STDs.
I laughed in her face, called her parents, told them her story, and then booked a flight home a month early. The day before I left, she asked, ‘If I go to therapy will you stay?’
‘No.’
‘Can I come back to the US with you?’
‘No.’
‘Can we get back together in two months?’
‘Have you heard of that one Taylor Swift song? We are never ever ever…’
The night before I leave I told her, ‘If you tell me who assaulted you I’ll consider staying.’
She was hesitant to give it to me. She gave me some random dudes name. It was pure bullcrap. I told her ‘Okay, I’ll stay.’ I banged her one last time that night and dipped out the next morning. I took a taxi to the train station, train station to airport, airport to another airport to another airport. All in all, it was a 72 hour trip.
Total. Freaking. Nutjob.”
Don’t Get Married Until You Really Know What You’re Getting Into
“I got married far too young and for all the wrong reasons. We immediately went into a troubled marriage phase.
I was working long hours to make up for the loss of what little income she was making when she quit her job to play online games all day. What little time we spent together, we spent fighting or ignoring each other.
A couple of months later, things are…better. Not good, but better. I decide to knock off work early to take her out on a ‘date.’ I open the door and hear the unmistakable sound of my wife being boned.
I walk into the bedroom and see some dude banging my wife and going at it good, so I just lean on the door and watch for a minute, then finally I clear my throat and panic ensues. He grabs his clothes off the floor and BOLTS out the window and runs without any clothing to the car parked in my neighbor’s driveway. My now ex-wife starts crying and begging and pleading. I just say, ‘I’m going to my best friends house for a few days, be gone when I get back.’
She decided she didn’t want to have an amicable, uncontested divorce. What she didn’t know is that the dude that banged her called me like two weeks later, wanting to meet and talk. He told me she had been flirting with a bunch of dudes in chat rooms and was pretending she was single, which is why he was there. I asked him if he’d testify to that under oath and he said he would.
When she saw him in court, her face went white and she immediately started talking to her lawyer. After the guy testified, the judge gave her a ‘you’re such a hag’ look and awarded me an annulment. I haven’t spoken to her since.
As for the guy, it turns out I’m friends with him now. That’s life.”
“What Did I Do Wrong?”
“I was in Michigan putting my grandfather to rest while my fiancée at the time was at home in New Hampshire setting up an apartment for college. On my way home (driving through Canada), I noticed my debit card was being declined. Thankfully, I had enough cash on hand to pay for gas.
I kept calling her to see if thing we’re alright, if she needed help moving stuff, if she was still staying at her friends house. Nothing.
I finally get to New Hampshire about 12 hours later and find that there is no trace of any money left in my account. $12,000 gone.
I call the bank and they say it was withdrawn from an authorized member of the account. I call my fiancée and still nothing. I get a call like three days later with her crying saying she cheated on me.
She said, ‘You were gone and he just reminded me of you so much.’
Well, I bet you’re wonder what happened to the money, right? She withdrew it to invest in her new boyfriend’s budding (pun intended) pot business. Boy oh boy. Then she had the audacity to say this idiot kid of hers was mine when I was in basic and her mother was whooping and hollering at me saying, ‘That’s why you ran away to the military, to avoid being a father.’
That freaking hag got knocked up and dropped like a rock, then had the balls to say the kid was mine even though it wasn’t (we hadn’t banged for a month or two prior and unless the gestation period for redheaded floozies is 11 months, there was no way).
I decided to be the bigger man and not tell her mother about her transgressions, but I did help her do simple math. I suggested that maybe she should talk to her daughter.
That was almost 9 years ago and it still eats at me sometimes. I have a wife, two kids, a good job and everything, but sometimes I wake up and think ‘Man, what did I do wrong?'”
No Alimony For This Witch!
“I had been married to my wife six months.
I work a lot (own a small business) so I’m gone a lot, but I came home from the office for part of my day to grab something I needed for a job I was headed to. I heard a noise in the bedroom, walked in, and there she was, riding another guy.
They both looked at me, I looked at them, I grabbed what I needed and left quickly, telling her as I turned around that she better be gone when I got back.
I called a friend of mine who waited about two hours and then went to my place. She left, taking essentials with her. The following weekend, he stood in for me while she removed the rest of her stuff.
One mistake I made is that I didn’t cancel the credit cards of mine that she had cards of also. She went out that evening with that guy and ran them all up (about 5k or so). They were not major limit cards – I had only had them to help my credit score earlier and because I was making good money, I had been on a cash-only basis for a long while, which is probably why I forgot.
That was basically the end of the finding out.
I hired an attorney for the divorce, who then hired a PI when she replied to my filing with a request for $2,000 in alimony a month. The PI revealed that she had been cheating through the entire marriage and prior. Two guys she had been with but dumped agreed to sign affidavits with the attorney. The PI took a load of pictures as well. She didn’t get the $2,000 a month once the judge saw all this at the final hearing to finalize the divorce.
After we had parted ways, but were not divorced yet, she went to a club and banged about 10 guys in a back room.
After the divorce was final, I never saw her again. I know she is in Arizona though, because she has tried to get credit in my name there three times.
The attorney cost about $12,000 total, or six months of Alimony. The attorney told me I’d probably have to pay her about 5 years monthly, so I saved quite a bit on that, for sure.”
So Much For Trying To Work Things Out
“I dated a guy once for about a year. We had hit a rough patch and decided to break up. A few weeks pass and we both decide we’ve been crazy. We apologize for the things we’ve done and decide we’re going to work things out. He tucks me into bed one night (we lived in the same apartment building) and tells me how much he loves me. He asks me if I’ll come back to his place where everyone is hanging out. I tell him I have work and and just need to get to sleep.
About half way through the night, I start getting an awful sick feeling in my stomach. I’m lonely and I just want to be with him. I walk over to his place and knock on his door. I text him and call him a few times. No answer. I figured he was just sleeping, so I knocked louder trying to wake him up. Eventually, his roommate answers. I apologized for being so loud and head to my ex’s room. Just before reaching the door I see my roommate, no clothes, in his doorway…giggling.
I broke down. He came out and starting apologizing and we talked until 6:00 am. He explained that he’d never gotten over some of the stuff we went through and he just needed to get this out of his system in order to forgive me. I understood that so I forgave him and we moved on. I ended up consoling my hungover roommate as she cried the following day because she had cheated on her SO with my boyfriend.
Three days later, I made dinner for him and my roommate. We cuddled on the couch a bit afterward. I mentioned that he’s paying too much attention to her for my comfort. We say good night, he tucks me into bed again, tells me how much he loves me, and BEGS me to come back to his place. He says he just wants to sleep. I explained to him that I couldn’t stand the idea of sleeping in the bed he just banged her in. I needed time. He goes home.
The following day he comes to my place after work. And we sit down to watch some TV together. He says he has to tell me something. And with the biggest grin on his face he says, ‘I slept with Kathleen again last night.’
I slapped him in the face and went to my bedroom and started packing. He and Kathleen are still together from what I hear. It’s been years and I actually just got married in June. Apparently he also got fat and developed a drinking problem.”
“It Was Just A Test!” – Sure It Was, Dude
“I had caught him sending dirty texts to other girls before, so the trust was pretty much gone. Unfortunately, I was young and dumb at the time, so I didn’t immediately dump the scumbag.
Some time after, I had a feeling that something was off about him, so I took his phone when he went to the bathroom and checked his recent messages. I’m not proud, but hey, he reacted abnormally defensive when I tried to talk and I was desperate.
The first conversation was with a random girl he met online. They were sending naughty pics and discussing when the were going to meet up. Within three minutes, I found tons of similar conversations…one of them with my best friend. I yelled at him, cried, and kicked him out.
His response? ‘It was just a test. Those girls are only friends, I wanted to see if you trusted me enough not to check my phone. Those convos are all fake!’
Needless to say, I didn’t believe him. After he realized, I wasn’t going to believe him, he told me it was my fault because I was an annoying girlfriend. Then I yelled, ‘Well then you must be happy that I’m dumping you!’ and closed the door.”
Obviously They Got A Divorce
“I was married while in the military. Right before going on deployment, my wife switched jobs to work on the Army base selling cell phones for T-Mobile. I went on deployment and when I returned, she wasn’t on the pier waiting. I called her and she said she was working. I got home the next morning and was playing with her new phone, took a picture, went to go look at it and BAM: pictures of a dude with no clothes on in my house.
I went crazy and threw her out. She came by the next day to talk and told me she couldn’t leave because she didn’t have money or anywhere to go. So being the nice guy I am, I let her stay in the master bedroom while I move to one of the guest rooms. She goes to ‘work’ and I stop in to get a new phone (I turned mine off before deployment). Lo and behold she isn’t there. She wasn’t even scheduled to work that day.
I tell her co-workers what is going on, and they tell me she was telling everyone we were in an open relationship. I am dumbfounded. One of the girls, CC, tells me Rachael, my ex, slept with her now in the middle of a divorce husband and would love to help me get at her. Not one to turn down an attractive little Asian girl that turns out had hidden tats, I said okay.
Rachael walked in while we were going at it on the couch and dropped her stuff on the floor, I guess to be dramatic or something. I didn’t even stop pounding away and asked ‘Hey, when you go to the store will you pick up a red blend? I’m making dinner for CC later.’ She immediately started to cry and ran upstairs. At this point, CC had an overly loud climax and got the couch wet too. I yelled upstairs, ‘Rach, can you bring me some towels we made a mess!’
We were divorced a year later. She refused to sign the papers and was trying to sue me for housing allowance and cost of living.”
Double Standard
“So I got a story about a guy I used to work with, who was engaged to marry his high school girlfriend. They really didn’t date too much in high school, because he was a senior and she was a freshman. He’s an arrogant rich guy by the way and she was a pretty, sweet girl.
Anyway, this guy decides to start a real estate company after failing to graduate college. So in 2008, he borrows some money from his dad, gets engaged, and then proceeds to lose the money hand over fist during the housing bubble. As his investment properties start getting foreclosed on and his business partners become increasingly disgruntled, it soon became clear that his fairytale wedding on a beach in a third-world country might not work out so well.
So late, late one night, I get a phone call. It’s the girl’s father, trying to locate the girl. The girl and the guy had been downtown drinking with friends, and the guy had abruptly called the wedding off and stormed out into the night. The reason being was that he went to the restroom and came back to see her making out with their gay next door neighbor. She had been dared/pressured into it by their hammered friends and had herself been curious on what it would be like to make out with a gay guy.
Anyway, his business partners decided to kick him out of the company that same weekend, while he was distracted with the foreclosure and his broken engagement. So it was interesting to see that fall from grace.
Later, the girl comes by to clear some of their stuff out of the office when she lays this gem on me. She was relieved to be out of the engagement, but she couldn’t get over how unfair it was that the guy got so upset. See, she thought it was incredibly unfair, because a few weeks ago at a party, she has walked in on the guy blowing the same gay neighbor.
Don’t ask me to explain any of this, I just report the facts.”
