Most of us have flown on a plane at least once, but do you ever think about what rules the workers have to abide by in order to get and keep their job? You'll never guess how strict these dress code policies are for flight attendants. Some of them don't even make sense!
Jet Airways
Better hold off on your Tinder dates if you want to be a flight attendant on Jet Airways. For inexperienced crew you cannot be married. What's the point of that rule? However, experienced crew can be married.
United Airlines
Skirts are not allowed to exceed one inch above or one inch below the crease of the back of the knee. It's like we're in private school all over again!
Jet Airways
People applying for jobs with Jet Airways have to rely a lot on their physical features. Jet Airways wants people with a pleasing personality, clear complexion (no scars, pimples or blemishes) and good eyesight. Better stock up on concealer now!
Ryan Air
Ryan Air has some absurd rules when it comes to a flight attendants height and weight. You have to be between 5'2 and 6'2 and your weight has to be in proportion with your height.
Czech Airlines
Another airline that really cares about size is Czech Airlines. They look at your BMI. You're considered in the clear if your BMI is between 19 and 24.9.
Allegiant Air
Are you a girl who hates wearing lipstick? Well, you're out of luck if you work with Allegiant Air. They require you to wear lipstick or lip gloss that complements your facial features.
Hawaiian Airlines
If you like to live on the wild side, Hawaiian Airlines isn't the place for you. You're not allowed to have extreme or unnatural hair colors, dreadlocks, cornrows, mohawks or top-knots.
Emirates Airlines
The hat the Emirates Airlines flight attendants wear has to be two finger widths above your eyebrows. No more, no less.
Emirates Airlines
They also must never wear any part of their uniform once they're off duty. So long to running errands right after work.
American Airlines
Say goodbye to your poof, because with American Airlines your hair may not exceed three inches in volume and can not curl or wave outward in extreme volume.
JetBlue
If your hair is pulled back in a ponytail it should remain in place when you lean forward. No pieces should fly away with that movement. Do they expect women to gel their ponytail so much it doesn't move?
JetBlue
If you want to wear a ponytail, you have to make sure it is secured behind the ears, in the center of the back of your head and should be no higher than the tops of the ears. The length of the ponytail can be no longer than the top of the shoulders. Well, that's very specific.
United Airlines
Sorry men, no trendy facial hair allowed.
British Airways
Flight attendants are required to wear court-style shoes, like pumps, which leave the top and side of the foot open. For this reason, no tattoos can be on your feet.
United Airlines
Although female flight attendants are encouraged to wear makeup, male flight attendants are not allowed to wear any.
British Airways
No tattoos on your wrists are allowed and even your wrist watch has to be discrete in fashion.
United Airlines
You're only allowed to wear four rings, at most two on each hand.
United Airlines
Your fingernails can be no longer than 1/2 an inch in length and they have to be even in length and shape. Looks like you're getting your nails shaped.
JetBlue
You need to learn to accessorize accordingly because JetBlue doesn't allow clashing accessories with its uniform. No more mixing metals.
