Fashion magazines always think they know what's best for our personal style. Fashion is a way to express our personality and style so why are there so many rules? Create your own sense of style that is true to you and your personality and ignore these fashion "rules." If you like it, wear it.
You can’t wear hats if you’re petite.

It's an old myth that only taller girls can wear hats. Hats add a bit of drama to your typical outfit and that isn't limited to tall girls. If you are shorter, you can choose a smaller brimmed hat or add heels to make you taller.
Your accessories always need to match.

Unless you have a closet filled with accessories, it's hard to have all your accessories match all the time. By mixing up your accessory colors and prints you add depth and variety to your wardrobe.
You should only buy event specific clothes.

Unless you want to be spending every pay check on clothes, this is not something you should be doing. Buy clothes that can be used for many different events. A black dress can be dressed up with jewelry and high heels or dressed down with a pair of white Converse.
You have to dress according to the seasons.

To be more budget friendly, you most definitely can wear your clothes in multiple seasons. In the winter, wear frosty pastels with gold jewelry and pair whites with darker colors like plum or navy. Once you stop dressing for the seasons, your wardrobe will double.
Designer clothes are the best.

Designer doesn't always mean better. Sure those designer heels are gorgeous but if you're barely going to wear them, are they worth the price? Look at how often you're going to wear an item compared to its cost. If you can't justify the price, go with something a little cheaper.
Once you graduate college, you have to look grown up.

Just because you hold a job where you wear more formal clothes doesn't mean you should ditch your skinny jeans and Converse. There's a difference between wearing a summer dress that may make you look a little younger and wearing a t-shirt with Hello Kitty on it. Actually, both sound pretty great.
You shouldn’t mix metals.

While this was once a fashion rule, it went out the window a long time ago. The key to mixing metals is to proportion them. If you wear a chunky gold necklace, wear a delicate silver ring that way the two won't compete with each other.
Wearing cheap clothes will make you look cheap.

You can often find super cute and chic clothes that don't cost a lot of money. Just because something didn't cost you hundreds of dollars, doesn't mean it looks cheap.
You should only shop at stores made for your age.

Jump outside your comfort zone and search for clothes in other places. The men's section is perfect for oversized sweaters and you can find some quirky jewelry in the kid's department.
You can only wear skinny jeans if you’re skinny.

Why curvy girls are told to hide their curves is beyond us. Pair some cute skinny jeans with a loose top for a chic look to rock those curves!
You can never go wrong with black.

There is a thing as too much black. It doesn't pair well with a pale complexion and it can often be seen as boring and drab if you wear it over and over again. Opt for navy blue as a cute alternative to black.
Keep up with the trends by always buying new things.

This rule is sure to break your budget in a flash. The fashion industry is always changing and you're either spending a pretty penny on clothes, or stuck feeling like you're behind the trends. To keep up, try shopping at thrift stores or second-hand stores. You'll find some great items for a lot cheaper. Start your own trends.
Heels are a must at formal events.

If you're not comfortable in your outfit, it will show. Instead of suffering through a night of pain in heels, opt for a classy pair of flats.
Pastel colors should only be worn in the spring.

Pastel colors are no longer just meant for the cool spring months. Blush, baby blue and yellow look chic with winter white and conservative colors. A pastel sweater with black or white pants is a great look for winter!
Never wear tights and sandals.

Just because you're wearing tights does not mean you should ward off all sandals completely. Of course you never want to show a toe seam on your tights, but other than that, wear sandals with tights as you please!
Never mix black and navy together.

Many say you should never wear black and navy together, but in fact you actually should wear the two colors together. A lot of people sport the all black look, so adding a touch of navy blue gives your outfit an unexpected look. Plus, both colors are very slimming.
In order to look attractive towards men, you need to wear tight-fitting clothing.

While you shouldn't dress for anyone but yourself, when you're trying to impress a new date, the thought may cross your mind. Men often say they prefer feminine classics and the girly look.
Never mix day wear and evening wear together.

Don't be afraid to break fashion rules and bring an evening wear piece to your day wear wardrobe. Pair jeans and a white blouse with satin pumps for a casual chic daytime look. Or dress down a cocktail dress with a bomber jacket and sneakers.
You should only wear one print at a time.

Your bold personality shouldn't be hindered by only one print. Mix and match as you please and show off your personality. Be confident and rock those prints!
