13 DIY Sewing Projects You Can Finish In Under 15 Minutes!

There's nothing like having your own one-of-a-kind creation that you made all on your own, but the drawback is that it can take a lot of time and effort to sew yourself something. Well lucky for you, we've compiled a bunch of fun sewing project ideas that look great and you'll be done with in just 15 minutes!

Pillowcase Skirt

You can easily turn a vintage pillowcase into a cute skirt in a matter of minutes! First, lay the pillowcase you want to use pattern-side down, and fold back the top 1/2 inch and bottom 2 1/2 inches. Iron these folds down and tightstitch them, then thread a length of elastic through the top 1/2 inch opening. If you like, sew a trim on top of the bottom hemmed stitching.

Water-Resistant Phone Case

Cut two pieces of oil cloth and two pieces of felt into rectangles that are 2 1/2 inches wider than your phone and 1 1/2 inches longer than your phone. Sew the top of one oil cloth to the top of one piece of fabric, and do it for the other pair as well. Then lay the two pieces with the patterened sides of the oil cloths touching in the middle. Sew all the sides down except the edge that includes the stitches used to fuse the cloths and felt originally, then turn inside out.

Reversible Headbands

Fold a large piece of fabric in half and then, starting from the fold, cut two rectangular shapes of even size that get slightly thinner further from the fold, but still end in a blunt edge. Then, cut two rectangles from an elastic cover. Sew the two headband pieces together length-wise, as well as the two elastic cover pieces. Thread a piece of elastic through the elastic cover, and sew the side shut once the elastic is sticking out of both ends. Sew both short ends of the elastic cover to the short ends of the main piece.

Keychain Chapstick Holder

Whether you need to be sure you’ve brought your favorite shade of lipstick or you’re fighting cracked lips in the cold air and need your chapstick at all times, this handy keychain holder is the perfect accessory to have. Find a small piece of fabris in a pattern you like, and cut it to 3 1/2 by 9 inches. Fold it in half length-wise and sew the opening shut, then hem the bottom and fold it upwards so that there is about an inch left at the top, and sew both side of the part you just folded up. Finally, add a hem to the top so you can slide a key ring through it.

Oven Mitts

Making your own oven mitts is really easy; the hardest part is cutting out the unique shape. Cut four pieces of fabric (two of each pattern) and two pieces of thermal interfacing in an oven mitt pattern, then stack them so the fabric you want to show is in the middle with the patterned sides touching, sandwiched by the interfacing, and finally the inner fabric pieces. Sew along the whole pattern except the opening, cut away any excess fabric, and turn it inside out. Stitch bias tape long the bottom to finish it up.

Infinity Scarf

Infinity scarves are a great-looking and super comfortable fashion trend right now, and making your own is so easy! Just get 1 1/2 yards of fabric and cut it in half width-wise. Put the two strips side to side so that the short ends are touching and then sew them together. Now that you have one long strip, fold it in half leng-wise and stitch the whole length closed. Finally, turn one end out like you’re cuffing a sleeve and tuck the other end into it and stitch.

Drawstring Bag

Easily make a drawstring bag of any size depending on how myw fabric you use. Cut out a long rectangles of material and make a small button hole 3 1/4 inches from the top, then fold the rectangle in half to make the bag shape. Stitch up the long side with French seams. Now, fold the top under to just above the button hole, and then again to just below the whole and stitch both down. Finally, thread a ribbon through the buttonhole and you’re done!

Insulated Drink Koozies

Find a piece of fabric you want to use, and cut it to 11 by 5 inches. Fuse the fabric to fusable fleese, and then stack Insulbright on that and stitch all the way around execpt for a 3 inch opening on one of the short ends that you can use to turn the koozie inside out. Once it’s the right way, sew velcro strips on the ends and you’re done.

Kid’s Belt

Cut a fun piece of fabric that is 3 inches wide and about 5 inches longer than the kid’s waist. One one end, fold the fabric under a bit and then under the same distance again, and sew into place. On the over side, fold the fabric over two D rings and hem it like before. To use, slide the other end through both D rings, then over the first one and under the second.

Pillowcase

Cut out two pieces of fabric, one that is 26 by 41 inches for the main pillowcase and one that is 11 by 41 inches for the border. Fold the border fabric in half length-wise and iron down the fold, then sew the open end of the folded border down to one end of the larger fabric piece. Sew all the way around the pillowcase and iron down your seams.

Key Fob

Cut a long piece of fabric, and fuse it with fusable fabric. Fold it in half width-wise and sew the length closed. Now, fold in half length-wise and attach fob hardware to to the open end with pliers.

Sunglasses Case

Find two coordinating fabric patterns and then cut out four even rectangles; two from each fabric. Use fusable fleece to fuse to both rectangles of a pattern, and then sew the pieces together with both fleece rectangles on the outside and the two other pieces inside, leaving one short end unsewn. Turn inside out and fold back a little bit of the top and stitch down.

Hand Warmers

These little hand warmers fit perfectly in your pocket and are a must-have for cold winters. To make one, cut out two 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch squares of cotton material. Put the two squares on top of one another and sew three sides of them together. In the open side, pour 4 1/2 to 5 tablespoons of white rice, and then sew the opening closed. To heat it up, stick it in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
