11 Common Foods That Might Poison You!

There are many food items that people eat everyday that can actually poison you. Many people are surprised to find that a lot of the possibly poisonous foods are actually some of the best foods for your body.

Almonds

Although almonds are one of the tastiest and healthiest ingredients to add to meals and desserts, they can be a poisonous food. Full of bacteria and poison, there are regulations for selling raw almonds in most countries. All raw almonds sold are heat-treated to remove any trace of harmful poison.

Leafy Greens

Your favorite salad greens were involved in over 8,000 reported cases of illnesses in the past ten years.  Greens can be contaminated by manure, dirty water, and unwashed hands. Luckily there is a simple way to make sure you stay healthy.  Always wash your salad greens before eating. 

Eggs

This yummy breakfast favorite has been linked to quite a few outbreaks of Salmonella.  Make sure you properly cook your eggs and avoid food with raw egg, such as cookie dough. Always refrigerate your eggs before you eat them. 

Oysters

Oysters lurk on the ocean floor, filter feeding.  But if they water they are filtering is contaminated, so are the oysters.  If served raw or undercooked oysters can contain germs that cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Cherries

Cherries are one of the many fruits that can be poisonous. The leaves and seeds in cherries contain toxins that can be harmful to people. It is important to throw away the pits of cherries instead of chewing on them or even eating them as they contain the most amount of poisonous toxins.

Apples

Apples are another fruit that can contain poisonous toxins. The toxins lie within the seeds of the apples. Although the seeds are not the best to consume, one would have to consume an extreme amount of apples to feel any effect.

Potatoes

Potatoes are one of the most consumed foods in the world, but they can sometimes be poisonous. Preparation of potatoes is important and it is important to avoid any green colored potatoes. The stems and leaves of the potatoes contain poison that can lead to serious health issues although it is very rare.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg is considered poisonous because certain doses can cause hallucinating affects. Nutmeg is often used to flavor desserts or even coffees and other beverages. Buying treated powder nutmeg can avoid any harmful effects that can come along with eating a whole nutmeg.

Chicken

Raw chicken contains bacteria and toxins that can cause harmful effects to the body if not prepared correctly. Chicken should always be washed and should always be cooked to the proper temperature. Eating raw chicken can result in vomiting, stomach problems and a variety of other harmful health issues.

Peaches

Peaches are yet another fruit that can be poisonous. Peaches are good for you and can be very tasty however the pits and any seeds can contain toxins. Although most people refrain from eating the pit sucking on the pit or licking the pit should also be avoided.

Kidney Beans

Most types of beans can be poisonous. However kidney beans are typically the most toxic if not cooked correctly. The FDA recommends boiling the kidney beans for at least 30 minutes to reduce and kill any toxins.

Tuna

Tuna contains mercury which can be poisonous to the brain and other parts of the body. Many doctors recommend women who are expecting to avoid tuna and other raw fish due to the mercury levels. Being sure tuna is prepared correctly can help reduce and eliminate the amount of harmful toxins.

Raw Honey

Raw honey must go through a pasteurization process to remove all of the toxins and harmful chemicals it contains. Eating raw honey that has not been processed correctly can lead to a variety of health problems. Stomach troubles and weakness throughout the body can result in eating poisonous raw honey.

Raw Cashews

Although many of the raw cashews you find in local stores have been treated to remove toxins, true raw cashews can be poisonous. Raw cashews contain toxins that can cause a rash and other side effects. Cashews in stores are typically steamed to remove toxins.
