The LAPD is searching for multiple people after they reportedly stole at least four vehicles. Footage of the incident was broadcast on live TV, and the suspects remain at large.
Per multiple outlets, including Fox 11, reported that the incident occurred on Sunday, August 10. The LAPD addressed the situation directly on X with a travel advisory. “There is an active CHP pursuit in the Downtown Los Angeles area. Please use caution. Suspect vehicle is a white semi truck and trailer,” they wrote. Three minutes later, the police department posted again, advising road users that the suspects are “considered armed and dangerous.” The post clarified, “Active pursuit of a semi truck in the DTLA area. Suspects are wanted for Carjacking.”
Fox 11 shared raw footage of chaos on the highway as confused motorists reacted to vehicles traveling the wrong way up the road. The outlet reported that two suspects led the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on an extended chase that lasted over an hour. The carjackers allegedly stole a pickup truck and used it to try to “pin” other vehicles to break in. They attempted to steal two cars unsuccessfully before securing a much larger vehicle.
The Suspects Hijacked A Big Rig On The Highway
Fox 11 broadcast the hijack on live TV and posted a segment on YouTube. The suspects stop in front of a big rig, which backs off when they exit the pickup truck. They drove a little further up the highway and bumped into another big rig. Two suspects stormed the cabin as the driver fled the area. After reversing, the suspects left the area in a big rig carrying a large tanker.
The pair reportedly ditched the big rig in downtown Los Angeles at around 11:30 PM. They then made a getaway in a white pickup truck and headed for Boyle Heights.
Despite the helicopter support and lengthy chase, the suspects remain at large. The LAPD posted again on X, saying, “Suspects have stopped on Alameda under the 10 freeway and fled from the semi truck. Use caution in the area.”
ABC7 reveals that truck drivers called the outlet and clarified that the tanker on the big rig was not carrying hazardous materials. They claimed it could have been milk. The outlet explains that the suspects hijacked another vehicle after the pickup truck, which is where they gave the authorities the slip.
