Authorities in Idaho responded to a report of a body found in a river last week. A multi-hour search ensued, where deputies discovered they had been tracking a life-sized sex doll instead.
East Idaho News reported on the bizarre incident, which occurred on July 31 at around 9:30 AM. Adam Mabey, the Caribou County Sheriff, told the outlet that a witness reported a body in the Blackfoot River roughly 16 miles northeast of Soda Springs. Deputies arrived at the scene armed with drones and flew them along the bank. A team reportedly entered the water at around 12:30 PM once the ‘body’ was found.
Mabey told East Idaho News, “When my team went in and pulled it out of the water, that’s when they realized it was just a life-size companion doll.”
The sheriff believes the doll was in the water for some time before they found it. It remains unclear who it belongs to or how it got there.
The Sheriff Revealed Potential Charges Should The Owner Of The Doll Be Identified
The sheriff reportedly told the outlet that he doesn’t think they will ever find the doll’s owner. If they do, authorities will charge them with littering. Despite the three-hour search for a human body and wasted resources, Mabey is still happy with the outcome. He’d “rather go all out and make sure we did everything properly at a scene … than to rush in and do something and find out we should’ve done something more,” he told East Idaho News.
The sheriff admitted the incident has garnered plenty of jokes and funny comments on social media. “I was hoping it’d blow over and no one would ever hear about it … But I can also see it’s an interesting story,” he said.
In another case of mistaken identity, a teddy bear made of human skin was spotted near a convenience store in Carolina last month. At least, that’s what witnesses believed it was. Officers cordoned off the area, and the coroner’s office seized the bear. On closer inspection, they quickly discovered it was made from synthetic materials.
The terrifying teddy bear was actually made by Robert Kelly, who runs Dark Seed Creations. He admitted to making the bear and sending one to Victorville, but had nothing to do with leaving it in public. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department eventually arrested a 23-year-old man for ‘causing the report of an emergency while knowing it to be false’ and ‘wrongfully planting evidence to falsely present as real.’
