Authorities are searching for multiple vehicles after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident, yet nobody stopped to help.
The LAPD posted a news release on X on August 4 describing the incident. “The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a pedestrian,” the post reads.
Authorities explain that the hit-and-run occurred on August 3 at around 9:00 AM. A vehicle was traveling northbound on La Brea Avenue when it struck a pedestrian, a 61-year-old male. He was reportedly crossing eastbound from Roseland Street at an unmarked crosswalk.
Many details remain unclear, but the LAPD explains that two additional vehicles hit the man after the first. Police believe both those cars were also traveling northbound on La Brea Avenue. “None of the vehicles that struck the pedestrian stopped to identify themselves, render aid, or call 911 to get him assistance as required by law.”
The Hit-And-Run Victim Died Before He Reached The Hospital
The news release explains that Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics attempted to transport the victim to a hospital. Authorities pronounced him deceased before he got there. Authorities explain they are not releasing the man’s identity until officers notify his family.
The LAPD also issued a reminder about the law regarding hit-and-run collisions. “Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the release reads.
To that end, the post reveals that community members who provide information leading to an arrest for a hit-and-run may receive a reward up to $50,000.
Last month, an 87-year-old man, Frank J. Quinn, was struck by a vehicle on I-95. He spotted a turtle crossing the highway while driving and parked his car on the shoulder to help. One motorist reacted to the pedestrian quickly, but a truck driver in the middle lane couldn’t. The truck hit the car before hitting Quinn.
The man died from his injuries, and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. Both drivers were unharmed.
