We all love a good mystery, and one woman’s quest to discover who was chopping heads off her flowers quickly garnered a massive following on social media.
Heather runs the @heatherhoopesseid22 TikTok channel. Earlier this month, she posted a video titled, “Neighborhood drama?”
“We have these really cool flowers in the front of our yard,” Heather exclaims. “But we can’t see them. You know why? Because someone keeps cutting them before they bloom.”
Heather shows off the damage in the video before revealing an eloquent solution. She left a small sign and pencil in the flower bed with the message, “Are you cutting these? May we ask why?” She signs off, saying, “I’ll let you know how it goes.”
Heather’s plight went viral, with 1.5 million views. The video also garnered over 4000 responses, and while some recommend precautions or cameras, others suggest the culprit is far less exciting than an overzealous neighbor with scissors.
Commenters Weigh In To Solve The Flower Cutting Mystery
The top-voted comments all point to the same offender. One reply, with thousands of likes, reads, “The Deer wrote back and said, ‘Becuz they’re good.” Many commenters believe an opportunistic deer has taken a shine to Heather’s flower bed. Another reply says, “So I’m picturing a deer picking up the pencil and writing back, ‘not cutting, eating.’
The TikToker was quick to address the situation in a separate video.
Heather laughs, “I swear I’m not dumb,” pointing out that she grew up in California, where deer are less common. “I just assumed that somebody was like really excited about the flowers and wanted to cut them,” she giggled.
Her response video is hilarious and addresses the most popular comments. “We have deer, we have rabbits, we have groundhogs, we have chipmunks, we have cutworms, we have all of those things,” she chuckled. Heather also revealed that her favorite comment was, “How did the deer get scissors?” She pledges to continue monitoring the situation in case the flower cutter isn’t an innocent deer.
Heather posted several more videos about her flower conundrum, but says in her final post that the deer never wrote back. She also admits that one flower did finally bloom, and she doesn’t even like how it looks.
