A woman felt uncomfortable when her sister-in-law kept bringing up statistics. She responded with data of her own, and a family row ensued.
The woman shared her story on Reddit, where she revealed that she has a medical condition. Her situation means that her husband is now her primary caregiver. He wakes up early, prepares her meals before heading to work, and makes dinner daily. The poster claims that her sister-in-law (her brother’s wife) “kept talking about how men leave their wives when they get sick.”
She claims the sister-in-law has made several snide comments about the situation and even brought up statistics to support what she said. The woman recalls a time when she even did it in front of her husband. He allegedly stayed silent, but the woman felt like the sister-in-law was waiting for a reaction. She claims she told the sister-in-law to stop as it made them uncomfortable.
The Woman Snapped Back With Uncomfortable Statistics Of Her Own
The Reddit post reveals that the husband had to work late one night, so he couldn’t prepare dinner. The woman had her brother and his wife over, and they ordered takeout. She explains that her sister-in-law kept making passive comments, alleging that her husband was “probably” tired of caring for her.
The woman admits she snapped and told her that, as she’s such a fan of statistics, she should “check the statistics of men who leave their wives for not being able to get pregnant.” She explained that her sister-in-law could not have kids, and the comment sent her out of the room in tears.
The poster’s brother allegedly called her a monster for bringing up her infertility and even called her husband home from work. She explains that her brother, sister-in-law, and her mother are waiting for an apology. The woman’s husband and mom say she shouldn’t have escalated the situation.
She turned to social media to ask if she was in the wrong. Many of the comments are stunned by the story, saying the poster is absolutely not at fault if her retelling of events is accurate. One user replied, “So you are terrible for bringing up her medical issues, but it’s okay for her to do it? It’s the exact same thing.” Multiple replies say similar things, with one adding, “You didn’t start the fight. You finished it.” Others say that if she apologizes, she gives her sister-in-law free rein to continue her comments.
One popular reply says, “While blowing up at her probably wasn’t the nicest thing in the world, you can only poke a bear so many times before it snaps.”
