A man from Georgia claims his beloved 2-legged Chihuahua saved him from a deadly health emergency. His pooch reportedly started acting strangely, and he quickly realized something was wrong.
63-year-old Andrew Kuzyk told WSBTV, “I don’t know if I would be here if I hadn’t heeded his warning.” The outlet explains that the 2-legged Chihuahua, Champ, was born without front paws and his mother rejected him. Kuzyk has been Champ’s owner ever since, and they are reportedly inseparable. In an interview with WSBTV, Kuzyk explained, “They were, y’know, going to get rid of it for good. And I said, No, you are not!”
The outlet explains that Kuzyk fell asleep on the floor one evening, but Champ started acting strangely and was pushing on his chest. Kuzyk made a gesture of Champ pressing with his hind legs. “And I said, honey, something is going on; he doesn’t usually do that,” Kuzyk explained. “He’ll cuddle me, but the jumping? That was a little out of tune for him. But I knew something had to be pretty wrong,” he added.
Champ The Chihuahua Got Kuzyk’s Wife’s Attention
Kuzyk’s hunch about Champ’s behavior was correct, and he told WSBTV he started having a heart attack. The interviewer asked the man if the dog alerted his wife. “Oh yes. I couldn’t even get up. They had to call an ambulance, actually,” he replied.
Emergency services transported Kuzyk to the hospital, where doctors discovered one of the major arteries to his heart was blocked. The outlet explains that the hospital revealed he had a “widow maker” heart attack. Per the Cleveland Clinic, your heart’s largest artery is blocked during a widow-maker heart attack. The condition is “immediately life-threatening” and can be fatal without prompt treatment.
The interviewer asked Kuzyk if he believed he would have survived if Champ hadn’t alerted his wife. He firmly replied, “No. Not at all.” He added, “I do believe that God put this dog next to me and near me because of the things I’ve had to overcome.”
Per a report by SWNS, this isn’t the first time Champ has alerted his owner. The dog reportedly alerted Kuzyk to neurological issues in the past. He told the outlet, “I love him with all my heart. He’s just incredible. Whenever people see him, they immediately fall in love with him.”
