A monster truck lost a wheel over the weekend at a show in Bremerton, Washington. The wheel bounced along the floor, out of the arena, and finally stopped in the car park after damaging several vehicles.
Wild footage of the incident at the aptly named Malicious Monster Truck Tour quickly circulated online. @monstertruckswashington shared a clip from near the stadium.
One of the trucks hits a ramp and gets several seconds of airtime as it jumps over another vehicle. However, the front left wheel comes off the moment the truck hits the floor. It had enough momentum to bounce along the floor and clear a billboard at the edge of the arena. The wheel eventually bounced through a tree line into the customer parking lot. Miraculously, nobody was hurt.
Secret Bremerton shared extended footage of the performance on Facebook. They also show what happened to one of the cars in the parking lot. Considering Monster Truck drivers crush cars for fun, one vehicle that got hit by the rogue wheel was totaled. The roof caved in, and the impact smashed the windscreen and every window.
The Monster Truck Tour Released A Statement After The Incident
The Malicious Monster Truck Tour released a statement on Facebook, pledging transparency about the incident. “We wanted to prove we are hiding from nothing & want to be as transparent & open about it as possible.” To that end, they also released footage of the incident captured by their back flip ramp camera. “Accidents happen. Even unprecedented issues such as this, & we will always do everything we can to help further the safety of this great sport we all love,” the post reads.
It remains unclear how the wheel fell off the truck, but the statement explains that the vehicle was using “industry-standard wheel restraints.” The company explains that they contacted the Kitsap County Fair Board and a fencing company after the incident to ensure it can’t happen again.
“Fact is, there is no piece of metal in existence that will always stand up to the forces involved in monster truck competition,” they add. The Malicious Monster Truck Tour confirmed that nobody was hurt by the flying wheel, but multiple cars sustained damage.
