A woman who worked at McDonald’s is facing a life sentence after allegedly stabbing her manager to death after an argument.
According to a press release by the Macomb County Prosecutors’ Office, the incident occurred on Thursday, July 10. Jennifer Harris, 39, of Mt. Clemens, was the manager of the McDonald’s restaurant in Eastpointe.
During the morning, she allegedly sent 26-year-old Afeni Badu Muhammad home before her scheduled shift ended. Muhammad left the building but returned to the store with a knife. The Prosecutor’s Office reveals that she wore a mask and entered the building through an employee entrance. She then assaulted her manager, stabbing her multiple times.
A customer at the drive-through window was reportedly carrying a gun lawfully and fired his weapon in an attempt to stop the assault. Muhammad tried to flee the scene, but the armed customer followed her to her car and held her at gunpoint until authorities arrived.
The McDonald’s Manager Is Survived By Her Six Children
The press release explains that Harris had six children and was a long-time manager at the store, holding her position for 15 years.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido blasted the situation, saying, “This is an absolutely senseless and heartbreaking tragedy. A life was taken in an act of unimaginable violence. The victim leaves behind six children, six young lives that will now grow up without a parent. This isn’t just a statistic; this is a family shattered, a future forever altered.” He added, “This should not be normal, and it must not be accepted as the status quo.”
Muhammad faces charges of First Degree Premeditated Murder and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent. The prosecutor’s office reveals that murder carries a mandatory life sentence without parole. The weapon offense carries five years.
Judge Galen set the suspect’s bond at $25 million, and she is held at Macomb County Jail. If her bond is posted, Muhammad must wear a steel cuff tether and report daily to Community Corrections. She must also keep away from Harris’ family and the McDonald’s restaurant. The suspect must stand before Judge Galen on July 23.
Sandra Stoudemire has started a GoFundMe to provide support for Harris’s children. The fundraiser explains that donations will go toward their education.
