Authorities have arrested a woman from Texas after revealing an alleged plot to kill her husband with drugged chocolates.
According to a report by Fox News, police arrested 63-year-old Pamela Jean Stanley from Coleman on May 30. Her booking was the result of an operation by the Parker County Sheriff’s Office Special Crimes Unit. Per a news release by the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation was started when a protected source reported that Stanley plotted to kill her ex-husband.
Authorities claim a source recorded the suspect saying that she wanted to purchase powdered fentanyl. She then planned to “inject” it into a high-end box of chocolates and mail the package to her ex. She allegedly planned to make it look like the package was from a travel agency as a “congratulatory gift” for his recent engagement. They explain that the chocolates were meant to look like a “honeymoon” incentive offer.
Officers in the special crimes unit went undercover and met with Stanley. She allegedly drove several hours from Coleman and purchased what she believed was fentanyl. The sting took place in a parking lot of a local interstate motel.
Authorities immediately took Stanley into custody after the attempted purchase. Detectives also found her in possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine.
The Texas Woman’s Ex-Husband Calls Himself A “Lucky Fella”
In an interview with The Independent, Stanley’s ex-husband, Jeffrey Kauth, reportedly said, “I’m the lucky fella. I’m just thankful she’s behind bars.” He confirmed he was the plot’s target and revealed it wasn’t the first time. The 66-year-old alleged Stanley previously tried to hire a hitman to assassinate him. “I’m just fortunate that the hitman had a conscience and reached out to me,” claimed Kauth. “I’ve spent pretty much the better part of a year-and-a-half with the lights off in the house, floodlights and cameras in the backyard. It’s been an experience,” he reportedly said.
The Independent notes that authorities have not charged Stanley with those allegations. Kauth allegedly claimed his ex-wife wanted him dead so she could share in his son’s inheritance.
The Sheriff’s Office explains that Stanley was indicted for criminal solicitation with the intent to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Authorities set her total bond at $450,000. The Independent reveals police indicted her on July 10 and released her the next day.
