A music supervisor for the TV show ‘American Idol’ and her husband have been shot dead inside their home in LA. Police have made one arrest in connection with the murders.
According to a report by ABC News, the LAPD believes the shooting occurred on Thursday, July 10. Authorities allegedly received two calls about a potential burglary at the couple’s home in Encino, LA. Witnesses told the police they saw someone jump the fence around the property. The outlet explains that police were unable to enter because it was “highly fortified.” 8-foot-high walls with spikes reportedly surround the house.
Officers flew a helicopter over the property to check, but left after they saw no evidence of anything out of the ordinary. Lieutenant Guy Golan told reporters on Tuesday that police later reviewed surveillance footage from around the building. They saw a suspect scale the fence and enter the property through an alleged unlocked door. The couple, Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, both 70, arrived at home thirty minutes later.
Concerned Friends Called For A Welfare Check At The LA Couple’s Home
According to a report by CNN, officers arrived at the couple’s home at around 2:33 PM on Monday after receiving a call requesting a welfare check. When authorities arrived, they found a male and female victim. Both “suffered from possible gunshot wounds,” and police declared them dead at the scene. ABC News clarifies that Kaye and Deluca were shot in the head.
Authorities later identified the suspect as 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian. Golan reportedly said he was inside the property when the couple arrived. He then shot and killed them both in a “violent struggle.” Many events surrounding the killings remain unclear. Police do not believe that Boodarian knew the couple. Officers noted that the house was not ransacked when they arrived. The outlet reveals that Boodarian is not a suspect in any other burglaries.
Investigators are yet to determine a motive, and no security footage from inside the home reveals what happened. Multiple sources confirm that Kaye had worked with the ‘American Idol’ TV show for 15 years as a music supervisor. Per CNN, a spokesperson for ‘American Idol’ said, “We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever, and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
